NBA reportedly considering Walt Disney World as possible site to finish 2019-20 season

The Kings are in the thick of the race for the No. 8 seed.

We have heard about all sorts of options for the NBA to finish up the 2019-20 season amidst the COVID-19 outbreak.

From gathering teams in Las Vegas, to teams being divided into different cities to play out the schedule, there are plenty of ideas floating around.

Now, The Athletic’s and Stadium’s Shams Charania is reporting that the league is considering the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida as another possible site when the league and players union deem it safe to return.

Charania adds that his sources are saying NBA commissioner Adam Silver and the 30 general managers held a conference call with a league doctor who expressed optimism about potential medicines that can help fight the virus.

Keith Smith of Yahoo! Sports wrote about the Walt Disney World option earlier this month saying with 4,900 hotel rooms and three locations to play games that are NBA ready, Orlando could be the ideal location.

While it will still take some time to figure out the logistics of how to resume play, the NBA will also need to decide if it wants to play out the schedule, or go with a modified tournament to figure out playoff seedings.

This won’t impact the Eastern Conference as much as does the Western Conference. The Sacramento Kings are right in the thick of the race for the No. 8 seed, sitting 3.5 games back. The NBA should look at allowing the teams who have a realistic chance at getting into the postseason an opportunity to do so.

Whether that is by holding a tournament, or playing out the schedule, the Kings have earned the right to see if they can get into the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

Silver said the league doesn’t expect to make a decision until some point in May, but this is another interesting development.

If the league does resume play, would you want the league to play games in a single location without fans? Or do you think it is best to shut things down and wait for the 2020-21 season?
