The Sacramento Kings completely owned the Dallas Mavericks during the 2020-21 season, winning all three games in a comfortable fashion. Despite the Mavericks being a playoff team a year ago, the matchups seemed to work out in the Kings’ way each time they squared off last season.
The Mavericks enter this season with a few major organizational changes, including replacing Rick Carlisle with Jason Kidd. The Kidd era has gotten off to a bit of a rocky start, as the Mavericks have a 3-2 record, but have been blown out twice and have a -6.8 point differential as a result.
For the Kings, look for De’Aaron Fox to continue the aggressiveness he showed against the Pelicans, facing off against a Mavericks team he’s had success against in the past. Fox had a decent game, finishing with 23 points on 9 of 21 shooting, after starting off the season in a rut.
A major matchup to watch is Luka Doncic versus whoever the Kings put on him. In the past the Kings have thrown multiple bodies at him including Fox, but given the addition of Davion Mitchell, it will be interesting to see whether he gets matched up a lot with Doncic.
The game tips off at 12:30 pacific time, so another thing to watch is how the Kings come out of the gate given the early start time
