The Sacramento Kings will play their second preseason game in a row on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Portland defeated Sacramento 127-102 in the opener on Friday. Buddy Hield was a bright spot for the Kings in the loss, dropping 23 points in 23 minutes and went five-of-11 from the 3-point line.
Head coach Luke Walton’s new offensive system was on display with Sacramento getting out and running when it could, but the team’s defense struggled to slow down Portland. The Trail Blazers had 41 points in the first quarter and took advantage of the Kings’ sloppy transition defense.
Portland shot over 50% from the field and from beyond the arc on Friday with six Blazers hitting double figures. Former Sacramento center Harry Giles was effective against his old team, finishing with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
The Kings will also need to be better shooting from deep after connecting on just 16 of 50 attempts from the 3-point line. Point guard De’Aaron Fox went one-for-seven from beyond the arc as he tries establish himself as a deep-shooting threat.
Sacramento will be without big men Marvin Bagley III and Hassan Whiteside for the second-straight game. Both players didn’t travel with the team to Portland, but are getting in some workouts in the hopes they will be ready to go for at least one of the final two preseason games.
Marvin Bagley III and Hassan Whiteside played 1-on-1 in Sacramento, supervised by Rico Hines. Luke Walton hopes to get them playing 3-on-3 next week and spot minutes in the preseason games next week.
