Should the Kings trade Marvin Bagley to the Warriors for No. 2 pick?

ESPN’s Andre Snellings suggested a hypothetical trade that would see the 2018 no. 2 overall pick traded after just two seasons in Sacramento.

The NBA playoffs are rolling on in the Orlando, Florida bubble. We are almost down to the final eight teams, which means rumor season is here for the eliminated squads.

With the NBA Draft Lottery order now set, some NBA Insiders are coming up with potential moves for the teams picking in the top 14. ESPN’s Andre Snellings recently proposed a deal involving the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors.

In Snellings’ hypothetical trade, the Kings would send 2018 second-overall pick Marvin Bagley III and the 12th pick to the Dubs in exchange for the No. 2 pick at the 2020 NBA Draft.

Bagley had terrible luck with injuries this season. He appeared in just 13 games in 2019-20, putting up 14.2 points and 7.5 rebounds while playing just over 25 minutes per contest before the shutdown. It looked the Kings would have Bagley in the lineup for the restart, but he hurt his foot during practice and missed all of their eight games.

Bagley will never live up to where he was drafted, and the sting of Sacramento passing up on Luka Doncic to take him will be around for a long time.

But Bagley can still develop into a very good big man in the NBA. He has the athleticism and skill but will need the right coaching to put it all together. With the Kings cleaning house in their front office, the new regime may want to hit the reset button and purge itself of the players former GM Vlade Divac put together.

The 2020 NBA Draft lacks a surefire No. 1 pick, but Sacramento could add a valuable piece to put alongside soon-to-be All-Star De’Aaron Fox. Georgia guard Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Obi Toppin, James Wiseman, and Deni Avdija are among the players being discussed as potential top-five picks.

I still think it’s too early to give up on Bagley, especially given the lack of high-end talent in the draft, but if the new regime sees a prospect it likes, then I can see the Kings making some major changes this offseason.
