The 2020 NBA Draft Lottery was supposed to take place on May 19, but due to the coronavirus pandemic in the United States, it was postponed. Now, the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery will take place on August 25, followed by the draft on October 15, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN on Thursday.

So, despite all of the changes that have been made to the NBA calendar, the NBA Draft will still happen after the Finals, which would end on October 12 the latest. The August 25 date for the NBA Draft Lottery also suggests that the teams that have been eliminated from playoff contention will know their fate before August 25.
The Sacramento Kings are currently slotted at the No. 11 seed in the Western Conference, and are tied with the New Orleans Pelicans for the 12th-worst overall record in the NBA. With the eight remaining games on their regular season schedule, they could improve their odds in the lottery, or climb out of the lottery completely. The Kings are 3.5 games back of the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference, and 2.5 games from breaking into the bottom 10.
Regardless, August 25 will be a date that Kings fans will want to have circled on their calendar because, in any case, the pick will be in the teens, which is theoretically high enough to get a contributor. It’s also high enough to still be considered a trade asset, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Kings shuffle their roster this offseason, especially if they don’t contend for the No. 8 seed.
Now, we wait to see what the NBA plans to do with the combine.
