The Sacramento Kings could be missing one of their depth pieces for an extended period. The team announced wing DaQuan Jeffries suffered an ankle sprain while getting in some on-court work prior to the Kings game against the Denver Nuggets.
Jeffries has missed all four of Sacramento’s games to start the season after hurting his back during the preseason. As part of working himself into game shape, the 23-year-old was participating in live 4-on-4 action when the injury occurred.
Jeffries made a good impression on the organization with his strong play while on the Stockton Kings of the G League last season. He was called up to join the big club in the bubble and showed what he could do, playing 17.6 minutes and putting up 6.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
The Kings are off to a good start at 3-1, but getting Jeffries back into the fold will help head coach Luke Walton have some more options off the bench. Jeffries is a tenacious defender who has shown he can be a contributor at the highest level.
Jeffries will get an MRI on his ankle Wednesday, which is when we should know the severity of the injury.
