Marvin Bagley III explains why he liked tweet suggesting Kings trade him

The former No. 2 overall pick gave his reason for causing the stir on social media.

The Sacramento Kings are going into a pivotal offseason for their organization. Monte McNair will try and use his first full year as the team’s general manager to make all of the right moves to help the franchise end its 15-year playoff drought.

The Kings know they have two building blocks in De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton but they’ve yet to figure out where Marvin Bagley III fits into their future plans. Bagley has dealt with injury issues since being selected No. 2 overall at the 2018 NBA Draft and missed 108 games over his first three seasons.

When he has been on the court, he hasn’t exactly looked like a star on the rise. Through three seasons, Bagley has averaged 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds per game. But Bagley clearly believes he’s a better player than he’s shown with the Kings — so much so that he recently liked a tweet suggesting that he deserves better than what Sacramento has to offer him.

Bagley explained why he liked the tweet on a recent episode of his new podcast “Halfway Decent” and his comments didn’t do much to clear up any speculation about his future in Sacramento:

This isn’t the first time that Bagley has found himself in hot water over comments on social media. In January, Bagley’s father, Marvin Bagley Jr., tweeted directly at the Kings to trade his son:

Bagley is entering the final year of his rookie deal that will pay him a little more than $11 million next season. The Kings went 39-43 in Bagley’s first year but have regressed over the past two seasons, winning just 43.1 percent of their games. Next season is likely a make-it or break-it year for Bagley. McNair could certainly look to move him next offseason if he can’t stay healthy or his performance dips.
