The Kings grabbed some inexpensive center depth on Saturday afternoon

The Sacramento Kings gave signed Eric Mika to a 10-day contract according to a team announcement on Saturday afternoon. Mika is a 25-year old Stockton Kings prospect who has also spent some time in China this year. The 6’10” center averaged similar stats with in both countries, putting up 19.9 points (56% FG), 11.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists with the Flying Tigers, while his per-game numbers with the Kings have settled at 19.6 points (58% FG), 14 rebounds, and 2.2 assists.

Mika’s signing is likely due to the dearth of healthy big men in Sacramento right now, as Richaun Holmes and Marvin Bagley continue their injury absences and Dewanye Dedmon is questionable against the Lakers on Saturday evening with an undisclosed illness. That potentially leaves Harry Giles as the only available true center on the roster, a prospect who averages a cool 7.4 fouls per-36 minutes.

If the Kings are happy with Mika’s play moving forward, they are eligible to sign him to a second 10-day at any time, but they would be obligated to ink him to a rest of season deal after the second 10-day contract expired.
