De’Aaron Fox has been promoted to the National USA Basketball roster, per a report from Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Fox had already been a member of the USA Select Team, and was going to compete for a shot on the FIBA World Cup roster, but this move signals that Team USA sees Fox as likely to be on the squad.

Team USA has seen several stars drop out in the lead up to the FIBA World Cup. Currently the national team only has Kemba Walker and Kyle Lowry as point guards. Marcus Smart was also brought in to compete as a guard. Lowry has said he wants to play but is still recovering from thumb surgery and may end up sitting out. At this point it would almost be more surprising if Fox doesn’t make the roster.
Fox’s Sacramento Kings teammate Harrison Barnes is also on the National Roster, and Marvin Bagley III is on the select team.
Training camp begins today in Las Vegas and runs through August 8th. On August 9th there will be a Blue vs White scrimmage.
