If you get a play-in slot… does that mean you made the playoffs? Or is your record still in tact for missing the playoffs?
The playoffs is the typical field of 16. The play-in is a postseason tournament to determine the last two seeds in said field of 16. That’s why saying someone is playing for the 10th seed is a bit of a misnomer. If the 10th seed beats the 9th seed, then goes on to beat the winner of the 7 vs. 8, then the regular season 10th seed will become the 8th seed in their respective conference once the playoffs start.
to answer your question, the postseason drought would technically end if they make the play-in tournament, but the playoff drought will continue unless they make the field of 16.
Let’s say the team that finishes 8th in the regular season loses in the Play-in tournament. Do they enter the lottery since they got pushed out of the field of 16? Or do they still slot at whatever slot they’d be in if this Play-in thingy didn’t happen?
yup! The lottery is for the 14 teams that did not make into the field of 16.

Just curious, if you get the play-in slot at number 10 and lose, is your streak for missing the playoffs still in tact?
Look, I know it’s no one’s responsibility to bring certain prospects to my attention, but I feel like the draft guys/gals have been hiding Usman Garuba from me this whole time. I was doing my usual research (3 min. highlight vids set to hip hop), and he gets the RORDOG seal of approval. Just a fun player to watch. He’s got monster dunks/blocks. He does fun stuff in Off/Def transition. And he can create a little from the perimeter with these funky eurosteps. I have no idea if he’ll be good in the NBA, but he’s definitely the type of player I like.
