Yes, I know it’s about five months too late and many of you have been asking for an update on last year’s prediction contest. I have good news, as I’ve finally taken the time to compile the results as we prepare for the new season and we have a new reigning Nostradumbass:
Iyuman!
Iyuman was the second place finisher last year, finally getting over the hump this year. Rounding out the top 5 are Kosta, Sactown05, Deepshot22 and the previous champion, Yakshi. You can see the full results for the season here.
Congratulations to Iyuman, your new champion of foresight, master of prediction and prognosticator extraordinaire. Iyuman will get a bright new Nostradumbass badge next to his username for eternity and also wins whatever piece of merchandise he’d like from the Kings Herald store.
Thank you to everyone who spent time participating in this year’s contests. I have to apologize to all of you for taking so long to compile the results this year. I had some things come up in my personal life at the beginning of the year that caused me to take a step back for a while, but I still should have compiled the results sooner. As I’ve gotten older and busier and busier, it is harder for me to keep up with these, but I know it’s important to a lot of you. If anyone is interested in helping to tally the points this season, just let me know, and sorry again.
Now, I’d like to kickoff the 2022-23 season with our annual Prediction Contest Kick-Off, where we predict how the Kings season will go. Voting is open until opening night tip-off, so give it your best shot and see if you can unseat Iyuman from his lofty throne.
Congratulations, lyuman!
Congrats lyuman
Hey Akis
I could probably help tally if it involves simple spreadsheet formulas. Let me know 🙂 and thank you for organizing.
The tallying sounds like a hassle. Thanks for doing all the work to get us these final results.
4th place? I demand a recount! Congrats lyuman. I’m coming for it all this year. Let’s go Kings!
How about anybody but bagley? He is the most positive person on any comments.
Reality is not always pleasant.
Any good realistic trade ideas?
I know I haven’t been a consistent regular around here, but I’m hoping to change that this season and I’m happy to help with the spreadsheet and/or tracking in any way I can.
My qualifications are thus:
I’ve been suffering through this crap since the first Sacramento season of 85-86, when I was 15 years old. Now at 52, my only wish is for my belovedly wretched team to make the NBA Finals at least once before I die. 😉
I’m in the same boat, but one year behind you. Been a fan since Reggie Theus was the PG with LaSalle Thompson, Mark O., and crew. Got robbed of a championship and then have had to suffer through the worst rebuild in sports history.
Nice to see a shout out to Tank! One of my top-five favorite Kings of all time.
Congratulations lyuman! Welcome to the Nostradumbass Winner Club.
Does the club look something like this?
More like this:

Congratulations!????

I can’t, but so want, to predict that this Mike Brown/Monte McNair team will reach (41-41) and even break (42+) the drought of losing seasons, but being beaten down with disappointment has dulled the luster that might gleam in my hopeful fan’s eyes. Couldn’t do it. 36-40 for me.
I firmly expect this to be a much improved team in all the ways that describe a competitive squad – point differential and wins to name 2.
If Mike Brown doesn’t have a bonus clause in his contract that rewards this Kings team being in the Top 20, then 15, then 10, and heck Top 5 than we need to have a talk with his agent! It will happen.
If I had one firm prediction, that would be it: Kings in Top 15 defenses.
My heart says 40 wins, but my head says 35 wins. Until the Kings do anything in games that count, I have to stick with 35.
I submitted and the screen went blank…. I’ll just take that as an omen.
Was hoping that nba.com would have an article saying “L*kers demolished in Sacramento” or something like that after the last game. When the L*kers barely eked past GSW in their previous game, it was literally the very first headline on the page.
I am a bit excited today
Also, go Kings!
I have a non-related question. Last year I watched all 82 King’s games on NBCS-CA. This year it doesn’t look like that will happen. With the best chance of watching them be the best team in 16 years why would that channel not sh0w all of the games?
https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/kings/schedule seems to list them all on TV.
Thanks a lot TerzoM.
I’m guessing they’ll have 36-40 wins. It’ll probably be enough to make the play-in, but I don’t think they’ll make the playoffs.
Wait a minute now, we’re talking about our first place (preseason) Sacramento Kings here, haha.
I predict 43 wins.
My predictions are predictable
My hoops knowledge is risible
My odds of winning invisible
Final preseason rankings from The Athletic: 22. Pistons; 23. Kings; 24: Hornets
As Harper noted, the Kings won’t get the benefit of the doubt until they’ve earned it. What I don’t get is why the Knicks, Wizards and Pistons are ahead of the Kings at this point.
I completely agree with Harper, the Kings have to show something first.
Probably because they have better opportunity to win.
BR have the Kings at 19th
Yeah, Andy Bailey isn’t as low on the Kings as Zach Harper. Matters not, in the final analysis. This stuff takes care of itself on the court.
Congrats lyuman!
With such close scores, this first round of questions may be what separates the top few finishers.
My nerves are making me want to change my answers…
Dang it Kangz! Give me something to believe in this year!
I still remember how in the previous year, I choked by not submitting for the last game against the Jazz. Redemption is now complete.
Thank you Kings Herald! Looking forward to another Kings season and another Nostradumbass competition!
Nice work and good luck on a repeat!
I don’t think you make the kind of off-season moves that this team made to stay in the same place moving forward. I think its gonna take 50 wins to be in the middle of the pack when the Western Conference shakes out at the end of the season. And I see the Kings right around the 8th seed with 44.
Oh, and congrats to lyumen…!
