What a road trip from the Sacramento Kings. For the second time this season, they’ve gone into a road trip against not-great opposition with positive momentum and disappointed beyond belief.
I spent the first half of this episode talking about their 0-3 road trip and giving my thoughts on seeing the same issues resurface over and over. Everything from the lineup changes, the impact of injuries since Gentry has taken over, questionable effort levels, the poor play of Buddy Hield, and more.
Along with my own analysis, I included audio clips from a few of the postgame press conferences throughout this road trip. I’ve started to include more of these in recent episodes because I think they help the fanbase get a better understanding of how the team really views their current play.
This episode has four clips included that I thought were notable.
- De’Aaron Fox on his two missed FTs in Charlotte
- Alvin Gentry’s unprompted “we are not quitters” after the loss in Cleveland
- Gentry’s disappointment after Sacramento repeated the same mistakes in Toronto
- Fox explains why he thinks the issues go beyond a lack of effort & addresses the idea of him not caring about winning
After sharing all of those along with my thoughts on the Kings’ recent performances, the second half of the episode was dedicated to trade talk.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania recently released an article that shared a handful of names who are expected to be popular names this trade season. With the December 15th date right around the corner (the day that recent free agents who signed this offseason become eligible for trades), it’s time to start looking at some potential targets for Sacramento.
I share some recent reports about Ben Simmons, Jerami Grant, Cam Reddish, Kevin Knox, Myles Turner, and Domantas Sabonis. Also, I recently went on a Chicago Bulls podcast to discuss the idea of trading Harrison Barnes. Included in this episode is a short clip from recording, with the return revolving around Patrick Williams.
If there are any fake trades that intrigue you, candidates that I did not mention, or players that you feel strongly Sacramento should stay away from, let me know!
I always appreciate people sharing their thoughts on the episode, the show in general, or whatever really! You can do that either in the comment section on this post or by reaching out on Twitter @Kings_Pulse.
The Kings Pulse podcast is available on all major listening platforms.
I’m open to almost anything that doesn’t result in Kevin Knox joining the Kings. This guy was never an NBA player, and he won’t become one here.
If we trade five non NBA level players for Kevin Knox and end up with Kevin Knox and four NBA players aren’t we better?
Let’s just do a real-life NBA version of The Replacements. Including the owner.
On that note, here’s a song that pretty much sums up the team.
Sabonis or Siakim for any Kings player is a plus !
The only Kings player I actually think is a player who should stay is Holmes. All the others can go by trade. Including Hali and Mitchell, who I feel are the Kings’ players with the most upside.
Fox doesn’t make his teammates better.
Fox NaPG, not a playmaker.
Fox walks ball up floor too slowly allowing defense to get set.
Fox constantly dribbles into the teeth of the defense and gets stripped.
Fox paint step back shot is usually short.
Fox not a clutch player.
Fox not a natural leader.
Fox not a good man defender.
Fox for Simmons.
There, I said it.
Glad the downvote button has been removed.
Some really great points about Fox, and the suggestion that he doesn’t give a damn. If the way he expresses frustration just isn’t doing it for you, that’s a you problem, not a Fox problem.
I don’t know if you realized it, but I think that you inadvertently set Ben Simmons up for a sweet endorsement deal when you referred to him as “The Wings Stopper.”
ha! Definitely was unintentional
And honestly, nice work doing an hour on your own, and keeping it interesting. I sure as hell couldn’t manage that.
