Postgame Thread: Pacers 122, Kings 95

What an embarrassment.
By | 79 Comments | Dec 22, 2024

December 22, 2024; Sacramento, California, USA; Indiana Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard (2) shoots the basketball against Sacramento Kings guard De'Aaron Fox (5) during the first quarter at Golden 1 Center. Mandatory Credit: Kyle Terada-Imagn Images

This franchise, at every level, should be ashamed of themselves. This was a pathetic showing from a team that seems to have given up.

Honestly it seems like the coach more than the players. Yea, the roster is very flawed, but it’s like even the good players are checking out.

I continue to be blown away at how McNair and Wilcox still have a job. This roster is a disgrace to the city. How many times are they going to let the home crowd down? Pathetic

Is it an over .500 roster? There are talented individuals but none of the pieces fit. Not enough shooting for defense for them to compete.

Raider fan as well. Neither franchise has embraced a tank since they were last good, and you see the results. Perhaps the two worst franchises in the nba and nfl.

The Bills never embraced a tank – their highest draft pick during the playoff drought was #3 (Marcell Dareus) – and it worked out ok Actually made the playoffs in the most uninspiring-but-also-inspiring way possible the year before drafting JA17.

Of course, the NFL is a bit different. In the NBA if you’re not in a destination city some light tanking might be more necessary

The players on the roster are just bad. 8-22 for Sabonis? As a non jump-shooter…atrocious. 20+ boards are cool, but the dude has no face up game or consistent 3 ball. I love his energy and effort, but you can’t win at a high level with him as the starting C of your franchise. Trade him. Demar ass…trade him. Huerter trade him. Keegan broken. Trade him. Fox is the only player I would not want to let go. He is an elite pg and one of like 6 players in the league averaging what he is averaging. Mike Brown? Go somewhere else man. He fine as defensive coordinator but not as a head coach. Failure by Monte thinking Demar was enough….3 non shooters in the starting lineup? Lol…good call. And I say 3 now because Keegan is so far gone offensively. He obviously isn’t built for playing 2 ways at a high level. I’m just exhausted with this team. Not even mad anymore. Just expect them to play poor basketball. Changes are and have to come. Build around Fox differently or blow it all up.

Fox is really the only player that will
net you max value.
Sabonis won’t get you as much as you think. Hes complete and utterly worthless in the playoffs. 12ppg 7 boards in. 5 playoff appearances. No one and I mean no one will want that contract. Sorry,
Demar can’t be traded until
tjr summer.
Keegans value is really at an all time low.
Tell me what are you building around Fox? if you trade Demar, Boner and Keegan? Like realistically. Kings cupboard is empty. Empty…. Yes they have their picks. Other than that what….? Huerter? lol! Lyles? Jones?!, Team is at a crossroads here. Fox is the only trade chip, other than Monk that teams will really be interested in

Sabonis doesn’t have much value league wide because he can’t defend the paint or reliably knock down shots at volume. He’s good but he needs such specific pieces around him that he’s not valuable to any team that isn’t built to maximize what he does well. GM’s know this. If you read any national writer they are very clear about this.

Brown’s first thing he mentioned in the post game was about defense let downs in the 2nd half, and letting the Pacers score 70…YOU HAD KEVIN AND DOUG IN THERE TOGETHER FOR MOST OF THE 3RD AND THE START OF 4TH QUARTER!!!!

Then League decided to cutoff of the broadcast after James Ham asked if the team quit. Guess I will need to go find the rest on YouTube later.

Brown only cares if a player will take an open shot. If not, bench time. That’s why huerter keeps playing. Keon is a little more reluctant to shoot at times, for whatever reason.

It’s wild how good teams/coaches know the value and need of versatile defenders, like how OKC just inked Alex Caruso to an $81M extension, while Brown, who preaches defense, doesn’t practice it.

I honestly do think he values Keon’s defense and energy BUT he knows this team is so far behind defensively scoring is his only hope for a win.

I have always liked Keon. He is good. I have always said that Keon needs to shoot more to play more. I don’t know if Keon is that player?

Keon Ellis is arguably the 4th best player on the team (and is the best defensive player) and Brown dicks around with him. The only reason I could see is that he passed up an open 3 last game (it was either late 3rd quarter or early 4th).

but why arent Hhuerter, Monk, Dougie, etc benched for sloppy turnovers, poor shot selection and getting repeatedly cooked on D?

Lyles I agree with. I thought he played well and needs to be in the court.

But Doug over Keon explanation was a joke. Pacers run out TJ, Hali, mathurin, Nembhard, Sheppard, etc. so he plays the 32 old, non-defender McDermott, and the matador Huerter.

From what we can see and hear in the press conferences I think that Brown knows this team needs Lyles size and his typical play. He has been hurt and playing less than his average when he is playing. I think Brown is desperate to get Lyles on track because he is a dire need for this roster. This is somewhat logical.

McDermott scored a bunch one time so he was hoping for a religious experience and McDermott would do it again. This is crazy, but that is what the strategy seems to be.

Why are fans so scared of starting over.
I understand if you are 28 and up lol I am 30 now the past was horrible. Don’t you guys want to at least have a chance of finally supporting a real basketball franchise player?

All I had was Kevin Martin, the year before Evan’s came, tyreke evans, Demarcus cousins and fox. We all knew fox was an introvert from day one & needed a vocal leader. None of these guys had the personality/skills/leadership to lead us. The kings never tried to get a vet like Dillon Brooks.

This team needs new energy. We won’t end up like the pistons/wizards/hornets or blazers because we have 2 young prospects already Keegan/carter 3 if you add keon.

Two players in their prime that are going to bring you at least 4 more young guys and like 6-8 draft picks.

the rockets, spurs, have good assets something good for fox.

the grizzlies and thunder might target sabonis and have good assets.

I would have loved to be in McNair seat right now because sac is not a free agent destination, but when you draft prospects, they love it here. Now is the time before everyone value starts going down.

I’ve never understood the argument against blowing it up. You know what fans love? Exciting young prospects that give you hope. You know what sucks? Having a team of vets that’s stuck in purgatory. I think Vivek fundamentally misunderstands what it takes to sustainably win and keeps chasing back end playoff spots assuming that will energize the fan base. He still hasn’t figured it out.
