The Kings have signed guard DaQuan Jeffries to a 10-day hardship contract as their injured reserve continues to lengthen. Now Russell Westbrook has been added to the list with irritation in the joint of his toe and doesn’t have a timeline to return. Westbrook has missed the last two games and may just be done for the season with just over a couple of weeks left. The Kings will also be without rookie Nique Clifford for at least a week as he’s dealing with his own foot injury. In some good news, Keegan Murray, who has missed the last 13 games, has been cleared for basketball activities, meaning we could see him return some time before the end of the season, although with just nine games left, what’s the point?
Sacramento has already lost Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, DeAndre Hunter and Drew Eubanks for the season. Killian Hayes and Precious Achiuwa are also questionable for tonight’s game against the Orlando Magic. Even Kings two-way guard Isaiah Stevens has been sidelined of late with his own injuries.
Jeffries is a journeyman who started out his career with the Kings back in 2019-20. He’s hopped around the league since then, with last year in Charlotte being his most extensive experience as he played 47 games and 22.8 minutes a game for the Hornets, averaging 6.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists. Jeffries has spent this season playing for the Stockton Kings where he’s averaged 12.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists in 26.8 minutes a game.
