Welp, great thing we won all those meaningless games this year before it gets harder for bad teams to get a high draft pick! 😐

Stupid idea.
Penalizing the bottom three teams is wrong. The league is going to punish a team that’s decimated by injuries or lost key players to free agency like Indy was this year or when LBJ left Cleveland for Miami? Remember when the Lakers were bad after Kobe got hurt then retired or the gap year the Dubs took when Curry and Klay missed almost the entirely of a season? Is the league going to punish major markets like those for things that were out of their control?
Want a simpler approach, how about take ping pong balls away when teams “rest” their healthy stars or pull them in the second half of a competitive game? Remember when OKC sent a healthy Horford home for the season so they could improve their lottery odds? Target that kind of behavior.
“Hey Utah, you sat Lauri for rest against the Kings? Cool, you just reduced your lottery odds by 3%.”
I am broken record on this subject:
Until you penalize the owner, nothing else matters. And the way to penalize a bad owner is to take away the team. You had your chance, someone else’s turn. Don’t make the fans have to suffer your foolishness any more than reasonable – and we passed that along time ago.
Vivek has been the worst owner in North American professional sports and yet the Kings have exponentially increased in value despite his charades. Tell’em like it is – you aren’t good enough to be a Governor, Vivek.
I don’t think that is ever going to happen. It’s a good old boys club. An owner would need to pull a Donald Sterling to warrant that.
The owners don’t give a shit about the plight of the Kings fans or the teams performance, as long as it doesn’t hurt the bottom line of the league. Vivek flies low on the social radar and gives the league a person of color as an owner. He isn’t going anywhere until he sells on his own decision.
I loved Jerry’s final point about the owner is always the one who makes the final decision. It doesn’t make a damn bit of difference what the GM wants, if the owner is going to push for who he wants.
This Kangz era with Vivek as owner highlights this. Remember when The Kings had DMC and were playing the Pels when Vivek on the sideline was quoted at saying “We are going to get you!” to Buddy Hield? He wanted Buddy, and he got him.
Flash forward a year after that when the Kings offered LaVine a contract in RFA that the Bulls matched. That was under Vlade. Then in 2025 a different GM in Monte goes out and trades for LaVine on an even larger contract. Are you telling me that two different GMs targeted the same flawed and overpriced player? Nope. It was Vivek all along.
Arguably the two best basketball players the Kings had in that era were DMC and Fox and both were traded to teams that had a player that Vivek wanted. The dude has blinders on and can’t get out of his own way.
That’s the reason no good GM will take the Kings offer. They know that the owner will muck things up and ruin the GMs plan. I’m sure that Vivek doesn’t meddle on transactions like bringing in Precious or Eubanks. But when it comes do major decisions, Vivek’s stink is all over it.
It will never not be insane to me that we took on LaVine after he had one good month.
He was considered one of the worst contracts in the league for years, had one good month, and we took that on in exchange for our best player.
It was awful at the time, but especially in hindsight. I wish we just got a bunch of cap filler for Fox instead. Well, I guess we did get that.
You 3 do a wonderful job. By far the best Kings related podcast.
Hear hear!
Always a joy to listen to. Thanks Fellas
