The Sacramento Kings announced Tuesday evening that Tyrese Haliburton’s MRI revealed no ligament damage in his knee, but that the rookie guard will likely be out for the remainder of the season.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news first, and the team confirmed via press release moments later.
ESPN Sources: Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton has no ligament damage to his left knee, an MRI revealed, but likely will miss the rest of the season. Haliburton won’t require surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

From the Kings:
Results of the MRI revealed no ligament damage for Tyrese Haliburton, multiple medical opinions confirmed.
The injury occurred at the 7:30 mark of the third quarter during Sunday’s game at Dallas. Haliburton is diagnosed with a hyperextension of the left knee. No surgery is required. Tyrese is expected to make a full recovery and participate in normal offseason training. He is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season.
Its obviously a disappointing end to Haliburton’s season, but overall this is really good news. Haliburton will likely finish top 3 in Rookie of the Year voting and secured his place as a building block for Sacramento’s future, but his long term health is more important than the final few games of the season.
With De’Aaron Fox still out and a return timetable uncertain, the Kings will continue to rely on Delon Wright at point guard for the immediate future.
That’s good news and bad news.
What exactly is bad about this news? please explain this thought kind sir or madam.
Did you mean “That’s good news and ever so slightly not ideal news” ?
That feels more accurate to me.
Hey that’s my schtick! Seems like you’re stealing my role here at TKH.
Which is bad
This is also not good. I don’t want to replace anyones role here in TKH. We are in this shit show together.
Your role is safe, don’t worry.
Burt can get ready for next season when the games matter again. I’m happy about that. 🙂
My exact response lol.
This is great news! The last 40 hours were stressful.
Everyone, please thank whatever higher power you choose to label as God and if you don’t believe in a higher power then by all means just be excited and happy without thanking anyone or any thing
Lmao, I guess Woj is now the spokesperson for the Kings medical staff since they themselves have been lacking transparency with injuries.
McNair is close to Woj. I’ve noticed that Woj has gotten a lot of the leaks since McNair took over and Woj had him on his podcast before the season started. So expect Woj to break most Kings news going forward.
You’d think a new GM would change that weird communication shit, but you’d think wrong.
Heal up and get better for next season, Tyrese.
A lose- lose situation if McNair is a Woj leaker ! Hope that is in the past !
I was reading interviews with Teena Murray the head of Kings the training staff. She previously worked as a consultant with USA Hockey, the NHL’s Florida Panthers and Anaheim Ducks. One other little interesting thing is that she has two uncles who played, coached and worked in the front office in the NHL. I wonder if she kinda just has a hockey mindset. Their injury reports will say like upper body injury when a player breaks a finger.
They had to let Dr. Vivek take a look before announcing any news, b/c you know…Medicine 3.0.
Ugh, your “Dr. Vivek” phrase reminded me of Shaq and Vivek calling each other “doctor” during the Shaq introductory press conference…
Any Vivek/Pro Athlete or Celebrity interaction is painful. Such a fanboy.
This franchise is such a joke lol can’t even tell us the diagnosis. I’m scared something bad did happen and they’re hiding it from us since they can’t even tell us
Yeah, I’m not going to feel good about this until he’s going full speed in practice with no lingering effects. I don’t trust the franchise/medical staff/Kaiser as far as I can throw them. They’ve fucked themselves before.
Sometimes the diagnosis is just “Owwww!”
An MRI isn’t magic – it can identify structural damage but there can be pain/injury without structural damage as well. Something like patellar tendonosis isn’t necessarily going to show up on an MRI but it could still be painful enough to keep a player out.
Actually I saw a youtube video of a doctor who does videos on athlete injuries and tries to explain what he sees and I was scared that Tyrese had the Bo Jackson hip injury the way everything looked and went down. Hoping that is not the case.
No structural damage is good.
Undefeated in the Delon Wright era!
Here’s to seeing the healthy backcourt duo of Fox and Haliburton next season.
The hits keep on coming. Now we learn from Amick that the Kings seem positioned to ready to keep Walton as coach simply because they’re hemorrhaging money.
And the structure of his deal is even worse. It can’t be stretched. Thanks Vlade!
Yes, thanks Vlade indeed….

I saw this too….I have a feeling if Luke is let go, that Scotty Brooks would be our next HC. Stotts wouldn’t want to deal with the BS here.
D’Antoni with the McNair connection! Our roster is built fairly well for his style
What a cluster this whole thing has been. The Joerger firing after the best season in this franchise’s recent history, the Walton hire without seriously considering ANYONE else, Walton’s personal shit hitting the Kings fan, and now wasting multiple years on a guy that should have never been hired in the first place.
If anything epitomizes the ineptitude of this franchise, it’s been the Luke Walton era.
Fucking hell.
Can we just go ahead and bench anyone who has a contract past this season for the last few games?
I’m reading that there’s no major damage, so does that mean that there is some damage? Hyperextensions hurt like hell, obviously, but did this one cause any damage that won’t heal with rest and treatment, and may cause subsequent problems or eventually require surgery?
If they looked at the MRI images and saw nothing torn or detached that’s pretty much “no major damage”. Beyond that, it can be difficult to make a determination from imagery – the player just needs to rest up and see if the pain persists before making a more detailed diagnosis.
Rest and chicken soup, as my mom would say. Thanks for parsing that out for me!
Wrong thread.
