The Sacramento Kings are signing Terry Taylor to a 10-day contract, according to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania. Taylor has been playing for the Stockton Kings, and playing well. He’s averaging 17.6 points per game, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists while shooting 39.9% from 3 on 5.3 attempts per game. Taylor has also had some good moments in Summer Leagues past. On one hand, this can be viewed as the team rewarding its G League players, first Skal Labissiere and now Taylor, with a little extra money and a chance at some minutes at the NBA level. The team has done this approach in years past with open roster spots. In this sense, I am happy for Taylor.
But if you’re a bit more of a cynic, like I am, this seems to be the Kings continuing to shave pennies off the bottom line at Isaac Jones’ expense. The Kings have had a roster of 13 players since the trade deadline, and have used a series of 10-day contracts to dance around the NBA’s requirements to maintain 14 man rosters with limited exceptions. The Kings had until Wednesday to get back up to 14, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks. The Kings previously had Daishen Nix and Skal Labissiere on 10-day deals, but both expired. The Kings passed the window where they could have converted Jones to a full contract and then promoted or signed another player to a Two-Way (which would be a way to truly reward players). And the Kings have the cap space and roster space to promote Jones and STILL reward G League guys with a 10-day contracts.
I’m happy for Taylor, and don’t mean to take anything away from what’s surely a nice moment for him. I wish him well. I’m not expecting much from a 6’4″ Forward, though. And I dislike seeing Jones get jerked around. Isaac Jones deserves a full spot on this roster, but the Kings seem intent on avoiding it as long as possible, or maybe even trying to get through the end of the season without converting him at all.
I learned right here on TKH that Fultz provides the veteran depth they need, so I’m not really sure Taylor is needed.
Fultz, Crowder, and McDermott are veteran depth providers . They are quite good at providing it as opposed to actual playing .
Gotta have someone to introduce our rookies to the Refs!!!
And who’s going to eat all the donuts?
Problems solved.
Why would anyone be anything but optimistic about this team, this owner…..

Buying my first Sacramento A’s ticket. What a world!
West Sacramento A’s presented by Las Vegas*
sigh…
I know when I’m 80 I’ll regret not seeing the Phils in Sacramento. Definitely FOMO.
Same here. I bought tickets to an Orioles Sunday afternoon game for my Dad, Son, and I. Sac sports FOMO is real
The move makes sense after running up those unexpected beam charges last night. Sorry, Isaac.
The Beam giveth, and the The Beam taketh away.

So the Kings may have just lost their starting all-nba caliber center and they go out and sign a guy who is 6’4″? Seriously?
Such a poverty franchise.
We bought our franchise off Temu
Who needs a floor general when we have a dollar general.
On the Kings a max contract actually means the player gets paid in Foodmaxx gift cards.
Vivek and Co. are not trying to win, they are just trying WinCo.
They’re bringing back coach Smart & Final push for the play-in.
Marshalling in a new era

Probably going to see more Lyles and Isaac Jones. It doesn’t matter. Who else could have have brought with 15 games left in the season that would have any kind of impact? Skal?
Moses Brown, Drew Timme, any other G League center you want to get a closer look at.
Doesn’t make much sense, with how he’s played he’s deserving of a real contract. And should want to make a guy feel good that you want to be a part of your future. Trying to save a few hundred thou, seems petty. Plus Jones is as tall and heavier than Trey, so no issues playing C. A decent option to turn to if Domas is out a while, and Lyles gets hurt again…JV I’m not worried about. Would rather have Jones at center over Skal.
No word on Domas yet, huh?
Ankle Sprain. Considered “day to day”
Just more evidence that Vivek’s main goal isn’t winning. He just wants to make money and spend as little as possible, fans be damned.
If only Vivek cared that little about winning, then we might have embarked on a full rebuild a decade ago.
Domas injury update:
At least 10 days, eh? If that is to March 29th, that’s 7 of the remaining 15 games.
March 29th is my pop’s birthday….maybe he’ll get a Domas return as a birthday gift!
Nice! That would be a great gift!
