The Sacramento Kings released the first episode of “The Run” on Wednesday, giving fans a behind the scenes look at the days leading up to and immediately following the NBA Draft. You can watch the first episode via YouTube:
While there’s not a ton of takeaways from this first episode, it does give us a hint of what this series will bring us. The production value is high, the camera crews seem to have a lot of access, and we get some cool behind the scenes moments along the way. My favorite part of this episode was the car ride with Keegan Murray, Monte McNair, and Mike Brown chatting on the way from the airport. Obviously these guys are aware of a camera in their face, but it still felt like a pretty natural and fun conversation.
I’m a little more excited for the next episode, which will center on Summer League, and the series should be fun as we move into training camp and the regular season.
It may be a little presumptious to call this The Run (as in “the playoff run”) but if this is the year the Kings finally end the playoff drought, it’ll be even sweeter with additional access through this series.
One other thing that stood out to me was that the Kings organization comes across pretty normal in this. The footage of the Kings draft room is a little underwhelming, but it also doesn’t include any sort of “Stauskas? Stauskas?” or “Nik rocks!” moments. Some of that could be that this is an in-house production rather than a Grantland crew, but it’s still nice to see a sense of awareness and professionalism.
Had a great time watching this yesterday, and I’m really looking forward to new episodes.
My favorite part as where the limo is driving by the Keegan billboard, and he looks at it and says, “Just making sure that isn’t Kris,” or something to that effect.
That was really funny
my favorite part was that there was no vivek.
Or was he the one behind the camera?
Or maybe he was behind the CURTAIN. Amirite???
Ugh if the team really clicks this year I’m gonna buy so many jerseys.
Yea I’m pretty damn negative towards this org and I’m ready for a change.
Ooooh, this is like the series “Inside the Kingdom” that was released through the 2015-16 season. Crappy season overall but was cool to see behind the scenes stuff.
I really enjoyed this episode and love that they are making this series. As a fan it is great to see more of the team than just the game itself, since let’s face it, those have not always been so fun to watch. Keegan seems like a fantastic young man and I will be rooting for him this year. Let’s hope the season lives up to the series name!
Completely agree, the video quality is excellent as well.
Looks like it will be a fun series to watch. Just to put it out to the rest of y’all that after giving up my season tickets for the past 9 years, I’m convinced the Kings will either win 40 or make the play-in or better. My sacrifice for you losers. You’re welcome.
I get it. I’ve always just assumed that by being a fan of the team, I was somehow passively making them worse.
After seeing the cowbell scene, we have to pack the house with cowbells and give him a proper welcome to Sac.
I was just thinking about that. Gotta dust off “Bessie” from Tractor Supply circa 1999.
Keegan gives me the absolute best Corliss vibes when it comes to humility and demeanor. Rooting hard for him.
Restrained, understated personality as well as sincere and genuine. Good vibes.
Video was well worth watching.
Much agreed, have had that same thought more than once.
“The Medium Nasty”?
List of NBA twins:
Tom and Dick Van Arsdale
Horace and Harvey Grant
Charles and Carl Thomas
Jason and Jarron Collins
Joey and Stephen Graham
Brook and Robin Lopez
Marcus and Markieff Morris
Aaron and Andrew Harrison
David and Travis Wear
Caleb and Cody Martin
Both Tom (1970, 1971, 1972) and Dick Van Arsdale (1969, 1970, 1971) made All-Star teams. Horace Grant made an All-Star team (1994). Brook Lopez has as well (2013) but not Robin (yet).
“Heeeeeeeere’s KEEGAN!”
Great comment! I was just thinking of writing something about Corliss and what a warm gentleman he always was in my experience.
The title of this series guarantees the Kangz will not tank at any point this season. The show must go on!!!
I’m just wondering why you guys decided to use a photo of Kris Murray for this article?
Coach Brown called Jerry Reynolds “Jimmy” right here:
Not necessarily the coach’s fault since he’s new, but you can’t walk into a Cubs game to say hey “Harvey Caray.” Come on Kings video team. I cut grass for a living and caught that mistake on the first watch.
Not any better I guess but that’s the G-man, not Jerry
I seriously need to get my eyes checked, my hearing works. I think.
And if you do say “Harvey Caray,” you’d better say it really, really loud.
Adding an “S” at the end of that video’s title would make this a pretty different video altogether.
If we are allowed one letter – adding an “i” mid word would also alter the direction intended.
I love Keegan saying “I’m excited”
