Matthew Dellavedova signs two-year deal with NBL’s Melbourne United

Delly's time in Sacramento is over.

Sacramento Kings third-string point guard Matthew Dellavedova won’t be returning to Sacramento next season. Delly has signed a two-year deal to return to Australia’s NBL and play for the Melbourne United.

Delly spent a season with the Melbourne United before returning to the NBA with the Kings last season.

While he played limited minutes for the Kings last season, and put up minimal numbers during those stretches, Delly had a positive impact on the Kings locker room. Coach Mike Brown often credited Delly’s veteran presence, and it seemed Delly was as much a coach as a player for the Kings. Some had even hoped that Delly would simply retire and join the Kings coaching staff next season.

But Delly decided, despite a broken finger that kept him out for the final stretch of the season and the playoffs, that his playing days aren’t done. I imagine Mike Brown will have a coaching position open for Delly whenever he does finally hang it up.

Uh -oh. They’re breaking up the core. Championship hopes dashed.

He’ll be the same player in Australia, except his shots will rim out counter-clockwise.

He’s just not an above the rim player anymore. He’s more down under it.

Great team guy, without question, but I won’t miss seeing him get minutes. It’s crazy that for his career, his best FG% season was .412.

I hope after he’s done playing that he goes after some coaching jobs, maybe Brown can lure him back from the land of chazzwozzers.

I liked Delly ever since he was a freshman Gael.
His teams won- not always but won.

I seriously hope all the best for him. He does have a future in BB- due to his intelligence and ability to communicate. Good on ya, mate.!

Spoke to him at Saint Mary’s a couple times when I was in high school and he was a big fish in a small pond. A nice guy and very generous with his time

God damn, can you believe San Antonio’s lottery luck? Happy for them, but man, as soon as they were one of the two left on the board, I had a feeling they’d be picking first. Was hoping Victor Wembanyama could go East, but it is what it is.

At least he’s not in Portland. Was hoping he’d go to Detroit

And to be clear, this isn’t knocking the Spurs. Wembanyama is going to a great team; couldn’t ask for a better coach and organization to get drafted by. But god dang, the West keeps getting deeper, lol.

Best of luck Delly. Now the Kings can get serious about getting a 3rd string PG.

Not bad. I’ve also been kicking around the possibility of Andre Jackson as a 3rd string PG who can also add depth at SF.

Jackson did not look the part at the combine. Sasser maybe.

Delly back to Melly. Oh welly. Even just one year of his locker room presence will have a lasting impact (I hope) for this team.
