Chainmail: Submit your questions about the Sacramento Kings

You ask, we answer!
By | 25 Comments | Dec 27, 2020

Welcome back to Chainmail!

As we all predicted, the Sacramento Kings have once again started poorly, losing badly to the Denver Nuggets and then in a close contest to the Phoenix Su…wait???? The Kings are winning? They’re 2-0? They’re playing some defense? Their lotto pick looks like a stud? Marvin Bagley has looked decent after 11 months of no basketball? De’Aaron Fox is knocking down threes? Luke Walton’s rotations have been solid? The young kids are playing plenty of minutes?

WHAT IS HAPPENING AND WHERE IN THE MULTIVERSE ARE WE?????

Before the Kings inevitably disappoint us, let’s get in some questions about their hot start.

We also want to thank our sponsor for the mailbag, Carter Imports! Carter Imports is a Sacramento-based company that imports some of the very best Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Cretan Thyme Honey available in the world today. There has never been a better time to support one of our own than right now!

Now get to asking, so we can get to answering!

For some reason the Kings don’t have a sponsor on their jersey this year. What say you all we pool some resources and get The Kings Herald to sponsor them? I’ve got $9.16 to get us started. But seriously, why no sponsor this year?

If they allowed sponsors on jerseys in the m*loof days, would they have picked Power Balance or Never Hungover?

Nugenix, and Frank Thomas would be sitting courtside every other game.

For some reason the topic of The Maloofs and Sponsorship takes me back to the days of their infamous $6 burger Carl’s Junior commercial. This is about when they reached the height of their empire, at least Kings-wise, before everything started going downhill for them.

I was thinking of that, too!

Maybe appropriately for the m*loofs they could’ve picked Summer’s Eve as a sponsor.

What would you say is your biggest positive surprise and your biggest negative surprise so far this season?

What are some early trends you’ve noticed around the league that you think are worth following?

What’s your biggest hope for 2021?

Didn’t we almost every season have a stretch of games where many of us would proclaim that we have really turned a corner, and that “no, this time it is different”?

Last season before the corona stoppage, the year before we started 6-3 with a 5 game winning streak, the 2016 season we had a stretch were we played great and went something like 9-5… all the way back to the Malone firing.

So why is it really different this time?

The Pandemic.

“When hell freezes over” and stuff like that. Hell hath frozen over, and the Kings are getting to the playoffs.

I always figured the Kings would get to the playoffs at the end of the world.

My question is similar to Rick’s though our wonderful Dutchman rambles on a bit. 1a. Is this
level of play sustainable or is it a mirage? 1b. Is the Kingz defense for real or will they forget to play D in a few games?

After two season games, are there any parts of these that you believe are sustainable for the season in order to compete in the remaining games?

Through the first two very competitive games, we have a nice 9-10 player rotation, with last night seeing 10 guys get at least 15 minutes.

If you’re coaching and given everyone is healthy, how is your player minute distribution different than Walton’s?

Am I the only one who’s tired of watching Corey Joseph play? He just pounds the ball to death, takes away from Haliburton being able to do what he does best: playmaking.

Would the Kings finally making the playoffs when there’s a great draft class be the most Kings thing ever?

Question for anyone and everyone:

Some athletes can be superstitious. Maybe they wear lucky shorts underneath their uniforms, refuse sex from their spouse all throughout training camp until after a boxing match, or cut their nails on the sidelines, or rub another player’s knee on the bench.

Are any of you superstitious? Or even a little stitious?

What are some things you might do during a game to help the Kings win?

Do you not dare change the channel while the Kings have a game lead? Eat the same snacks from the last game the Kings won? Shoot nerf hoops every time a King is at the free-throw line?

Do you act really sweet to everyone around you in hopes that there’s some kind of karma elf watching over you?

Do you believe in curses and perhaps say things out loud like: “My oh my, Chris Paul is such a great free-throw shooter. Obviously he is going to make both of these free throws….”, hoping that he will miss one or two of them?

What are your quirks during game time?

I’m extremely superstitious.

I don’t talk about games when I’m watching them and I don’t wear Kings gear when they play. Then again, I haven’t really worn Kings gear for a while, so . . .

I think ever since the Horry shot I’ve been pretty quiet and focused until a game is completely over.

I do wear Kings hats during the games but then I almost always wear Kings hats. I just got a new Kings hat for Christmas and have only worn it on game nights. Won’t work it into the regular rotation until it gets dirty enough. I still haven’t worn my second best Kings hat much, so that could be a while. My primary Kings hat is no longer purple and not really blue but with all the stains and dirt on it….it almost can look green in the right light.

What record on say 2/28/21 has front office thinking playoffs instead of draft position?

Can you give some hope to those of us who are bearish on Marvin Bagley? Is there a stat line to to take solace in? I get that he’s rusty from the injuries, so what would indicate this season that he’s taking that step towards becoming a solid NBA center (or stretch 4)?

I think the stat that gives me hope about him is 21, which is his age. Guy is crazy young still. Let’s hope he figures it out and plays well, as a king.

Would you agree or disagree the Kings finally have the right mix of veterans, youth and depth and can finish this season at least .500?

With the 2nd Phoenix game exposing our flaws (lack of PF, shot-creator and initiator) who do you think we should target to bolster our squad so we can contend in the future?
