Despite the league remaining in hiatus, quite a bit has been happening in the NBA over the last few days. Several players have publicly shared their hesitation in returning to play, others have stated their determination to finish the year, the league office provided guidelines on who can sign and bring which players to Orlando, monetary penalties have been announced for players who sit out, health and safety policies have been released for the return to play, and the 2020 draft continues to loom in the relatively new future.

What is your go-to place for food takeout during quarantine?
I admittedly have only done takeout once since quarantine started in mid-March, but I definitely want to do a better job at supporting small local restaurants.
If you had a time machine and could send college Boogie back in time to get drafted by the Kings in 1997. His skillset is the same, but the environment in which he develops as a pro are obviously different. This also sets off a chain reaction in which Vlade never signs with the Kings, but everything else roster-wise stays the same. Do the early 2000 era Kings win a championship with Back to the Future Boogie at Center?

If I want to read an informative, good (e)book about the racism issues plaguing the US, which book would you recommend? (preferably one available via Kindle).
Not a book, but I Am Not Your Negro is one documentary film I would recommend about the issue you mentioned.

For anyone that has Netflix, I highly recommend the documentary “13th.” It talks about the prison industry and how there are so many people of color overcrowding prisons.
Yeah, that was eye-opening.
Separate, but related. Has anybody heard about the Port Chicago Mutiny? I’ve been reading about it recently, since the events took place a few miles from where I live, and it’s fucking mindblowing that it’s not more well known. It occurred after one of the biggest casualty events on US soil in WW2, and was the catalyst that lead to racial integration of the US Navy.
Just such a wtf? feeling learning that the Navy forced untrained black men to load munitions on ships, then 10,000 tons of munitions exploded, killing 300 people. 50 of the survivors were sent to prison for mutiny because they refused to continue working under conditions that were obviously unsafe. Even more wtf? that only one of them was pardoned before he died, and the other 49 were posthumously exonerated in 2019.
and 1, the explosion was so big that it was felt in San Jose and Santa Clara. If you know anything about bay area geography, then you know that’s a big ass explosion.
It’s easy to forget that the US had segregated armed forces throughout WW2.
They wouldn’t integrate until 1948.
How do you define success in Orlando? Is it simply playoffs or bust?
Shit, I’ll chalk up “Everyone associated with the Kings makes it out of there with their health intact” as a major “success!”
IF (the mother of all ifs) the Kings squeak into the playoffs under this year’s modified format, does it really count as breaking the streak? Compressing the entire regular season into an 8-game play-in is drastic; would a playoff berth in 2020 come with a huge asterisk and SSS (small sample size) warning? Or do we just not give a rat’s ass at this point?
The season isn’t really compressed into 8 games. We’re simply stopping after playing 8 additional games. For us, it’s a slightly shortened 72 game season. No need for an asterisk here.
Except it’s the only season a team could finish with the 9th best record, by a decent margin no less, and still make the playoffs. Personally, I’d say if the 9th seed wins the play-in, it definitely needs as asterisk.
I really don’t get the purpose of adding symbolic asterisks. If they do win the play-in that means their winning % over their last 30 games would be around ~66.7%. (13-7 last 20 games before the break, 5-3 in the final 8 games of the season, 2-0 in the play-in tournament). To me, that’s enough of a sample size to believe they’re the 8th best team in the west even if it took extenuating circumstances to achieve that rank.
Two ways of looking at it. It would be what it is in the record books. No astericks needed.
On the other hand, I will not be giving the FO/coaching staff a lot of credit for assembling a “competitive” team if they back into the playoffs this way. Normal NBA season results are 28-36 heading into this non-normalness!
For sure. it’s not something that Vlade gets to put on his resume as a crowning achievement. I’d feel the same way even if the season had played out normally and they snuck in with a record of </=.500.

this is more of a request, but someone at TKH should try to find out if the NBA plans on installing the cameras required to generate their tracking stats/data inside the bubble. We take it for granted now, but there’s a lot of fun stats that are completely dependent on technology that’s fully integrated into NBA arenas. I highly doubt the Disney courts are equipped with data-tracking cameras, and I’m curious if the NBA cares enough to add them.
This bubble talk keeps reminding me of the Truman Show.. The health stats, I don’t want to know. Somewhere in there we become stalkers of the Bubble ..

Cordless of course. I actually want a 3/8″ drive so the issue is moot. I just want to know Tim’s opinion of woodchuck’s owning power tools honestly.
Perhaps I’m different in watching sports than other Kings Fans. I watch for a team having fun playing the game & enjoy being a part of that. The winning is for the bean counters. I’d love to see the Kings win. I much rather watch a team of fun players enjoying playing the game and watching for the .. wow moments. Isn’t that what most King fans like? IDK? You can’t want them to be San Antonio, else you’d be a Spurs fan?

What players out there, regardless if they are going to be a FA or not, that you think should be on the Kings radar if they become available or that the Kings should inquire about, whether it be young players with upside, decent players who dont fit with their current team, or veteran specialists/role players? I am fond of D’jounte Murray, JaMychal Green, Mikal Bridges, Elfrid Payton, Justise Winslow, Jerami Grant, and Myles Turner.
Justise Winslow is my target. I’d get behind a Buddy trade for a Winslow package. If Memphis were looking to get out of Dieng’s deal, I’d try and swing a Buddy and Parker (opting in I assume) for Winslow and Dieng.
I think his size, defensive versatility, and playmaking make him very valuable.
I wonder how available Mo Bamba is.
