The Sacramento Kings announced that Chimezie Metu has avoided major injury, but has a bone bruise. He will be listed as Questionable.
From the Kings:
Forward Chimezie Metu underwent an MRI of his left knee. The results showed bone bruises but no structural damage. The injury occurred in the second quarter of last night’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Metu will be listed as questionable.
Metu’s leg buckled as he was driving toward the basket. In the moment it looked like it could have been a ligament tear, but luckily it seems to have just been a bad hyperextension. Metu being listed as Questionable opens the possibility that he might not miss any time at all, but even if he misses a game or two this is excellent news. Sacramento has struggled with their backup center minutes this season, but Metu has been the best option so far this season.
The Kings play the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.
To me, looked like he banged knees – so bone bruise (a contusion or injury to the surface of the bone beneath the soft tissues) in all likelihood was caused by the blunt force trauma to knee. The knee gets a blunt force trauma, causing blood to accumulate under the ligament against the surface of the bone. So, this is not an ACL tear or a ligament tear. Painful and takes variable amount of time to heal- 2-4 weeks at the outset.
Could be sooner.
This is good news for him.
In the meantime, the last game sucked- multiple single plays that could have changed outcome- a made shot, a missed shot, a poor call, luck, bad luck, missed free throw(s).
Teams just go to the paint on the Kings. We need Rick Mahorn, Anthony Mason and Karl Malone.
This one got away. Bench was terrible. Guys wore down. I was frustrated. What if, what if,.. screw it.
Just beat the Grizz as a make-up if there is such a thing.
Today NOP and Mavs both lost.
it is tough for a team to get everything. Last summer, we wanted and got shooting. Now we need something else.
Vivek playing nice last night with coach Dave Joeger
I didn’t see where he banged knees, but definitely saw what looked like a hyperextension. Can one get a bone bruise on a hyperextension?
18 days until the deadline. If Metu is going to be out for a while, Monte is going to have to put in some work.
When the knee hyperextends, the tibia (the larger bone in the lower leg) glides forward excessively on the femur (the thigh bone) at the knee joint. This abnormal movement, whether caused by trauma or a non-contact situation, can also result in a bone bruise, or contusion.
At the same time, a bone bruise is more likely caused by blunt force trauma. Either way, no ACL tear or ligament damage. Easier recovery.
He may be out 2-4 weeks or hopefully shorter. But it will be sore.
Kings do, like you say, need some of their own bone bruisers in the paint.
Thank you for that explanation!
Guh, I’ve had one or two of these, and I was happier when I didn’t know all of the details.
But definitely a good descriptor.
Fell off the couch trying to get closer to the speakers to hear them?
I disagree – those guys are way too old.
the Malone comment? not to be taken literally. Kings need that type
It was re: Mahorn, Mason, and Malone.
(99% sure it was a joke on JNS’ part.)
Good news. Hope he has a quick recovery.
What Yakshi said.
Glad it isn’t worse.
Get well soon, Chimezie!
yeah – dodged a worse injury.
Rehab fully and well with an eye towards prevention
Does this mean Alex Len or Neemias Queta get a chance? I would be curious to see how they are. Len has been serviceable over his career, but this year in SAC not so much.
Very glad it isn’t serious. Probably my favorite king.
OT: Tis the season for trade rumors
Who gives a shit? Deni Avdija or go home. But seriously, it’s like, okay, a buy low player for…..what, exactly?
Maybe that is how Monte sees it. Rui could be a buy low prospect that he sees potential in, or someone to replace UFA Lyles? Kings would control Rui’s rights, so maybe he could be Harrison Barnes insurance in case Barnes leaves in free agency?
Rui is intriguing, but he could also be the second coming of Coke Machine. I guess it would come down to price.
This might be fine but he is not a good rim protector or rebounder. I still like Zach Collins if he is available. I also like Chistian Koloko if not Collins.
Koloko is not available. Forget about him until he falls out of Nick Nurse’s rotation.
I wonder, parenthetically, about Sasha. Is her Rui from another planet? will he come here next year (doubtful, actually)
I don’t see Rui as an improvement over HB or Keegan (potential) and maybe, just maybe improvement over Lyles. But he wants money.
I’m with Jack (now that he decided not to trade me for Buddy)- Kings need bruiser underneath.
So many late first round, early second round big tall guys but become valuable. We used one such pick on Q but he has not emerged as of yet.
Sorry but Hachimura is not insurance in case Barnes leaves this summer in FA. Hachimura is a buy low project you hope fits better to Sabonis and offers some of the things you don’t currently have.
Or, that’s how I see it. Who knows how Monte sees it?
But at the price the Lakers paid, let them have the kid.
Yeah, Rui would worsen our defense. He’s a ball-stopping midrange chucker who rebounds badly, passes worse and did I mention his defense yet?
He also misssed a bunch of games with an undisclosed issue (believed to be mental).
Hard pass.
Really disappointed with Avdija’s offensive development. Part of that is on the Wiz, part of that is on him.
His D has been really nice, though.
Avdija is another buy low project IMO. But…..there are things to like about him, and you watch him a lot more than I do.
Daniel Gafford would be the other Wizard who would peak my interest….but that’s assuming you aren’t concerned about his injuries. And trading for him would be tricky since the Kings don’t have cap room to absorb the cap increase (they do have several TPE’s to work with to trade for Gafford tho) of Gafford being a current PPP player. Plus any likely deal they could make work would put the Wiz in the tax.
But perhaps there is a deal that the Kings could make centered around Barton, Morris and Gafford with Holmes, Davis and Mitchell going back Washington’s way.
But I think it’s tricky, no doubt, to pull off. We’ll see.
Yeah, definitely buy low.
Gafford would thrive with Tyrese, not sure he would work here.
Barton has been awful and Morris very meh, IMO. I’m not sure that helps us.
Barton’s there to make the money work. Morris is a backup PG who has been starting in Washington. I think he goes back to the role he had in Denver, he’d play much better. Gafford is about fitting into next to Sabonis, if you don’t think he’s worth getting this trade isn’t worth doing.
I could be wrong about Gafford. Never happened before, but there’s a first time for everything.
Good point about Morris.
You could be wrong? Hell, me too. We all could be wrong! Or right! Or neither!
Or, something. I don’t know.
Hachimura going to the Lakers
May he continue to disappoint, amen.
Rui goes to LAL for Nunn + 3 second round picks.
Kings might have gotten him for comparable deal but:
This is great news.
