Another day, another trade rumor report regarding the Sacramento Kings. This time from Brett Siegel at ClutchPoints.
Let’s start with the amusing/sad part. Siegel reports that everyone across the league knows the Kings are searching for a “franchise point guard.” Remember when Sacramento had one of those? The same guy who is putting the San Antonio Spurs on his back right now without Wemby?
Cool.
So, Sacramento, as has already been reported, is willing to trade nearly anyone on the roster considering the road to nowhere the team is on this season. (Something most of the fans, but not the franchise could see as they were trying to win this season.) Siegel reports that most teams expect the Kings to trade two of the three of Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan by the trade deadline.
Siegel’s report indicates DeRozan as having the easiest path to a trade of the three, listing the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Portland Trail Blazers and Memphis Grizzlies as potential landing spots.
“Out of the three Kings stars, DeRozan is the most likely to be moved. More teams around the league can absorb his contract, and trading for DeRozan will be a desperation move for any playoff team wanting a mid-range scorer to help lead their second unit…
Keep an eye on the Bucks, LA Clippers, Miami Heat, Portland Trail Blazers, and Memphis Grizzlies as suitable destinations for DeRozan.”
A report earlier this week indicated that the Kings are not interested in LaMelo Ball, but Siegel reports that “Both the Kings and Timberwolves have been mentioned as possible landing spots from league personnel.”
How about our old friend Jonathan Kuminga? interest is still there: “As far as suitors for Kuminga go, the regulars are still relevant. Interest from the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings will exist prior to the trade deadline, much like this past summer.” Siegel reports that that the Golden State Warriors are not interested in trading for Sabonis.
“Many teams around the NBA aren’t looking for the type of player Sabonis is, as his lack of athleticism and ability to consistently stretch the floor as a shooting option limits his potential in another organization’s system.”
We’ll see you next time on the next episode of Kangz rumors.

LOL.
this sounds like something to be thankful for with these turkeys
On X
proposed 3 team trade was essentially
DeRozan and Keon -> Clippers
Schröder -> Nets
MPJr -> Kings
and that reminded me that Vlade and Vivek are Michael Porter, Jr fanboys.
So…? Not proposed by a Sac fan, as sending out Keon for I don’t know what isn’t great
It was Bleacher Report who aren’t fhe biggest Kings fans
Yeah, it’s just dumb. They didn’t even bother sending anything to the Kings as if Ellis will bust be thrown in to make the money work. Instead, they unload a bad contract (MPJ) on the Kings with no other compensation. Ridiculous.
It’s the exact kind of trade Vivek would agree to.
Vlade has been back as yet another shadow GM with Vivek. Scott Perry isn’t acting on his own and if he does want to claim that he’s already had one of the worst starts as GM of any under Vivek. Only thing giving him a leg up on Pete and Vlade is the draft for right now.
Phoenix is one of the only sensible landing spots for Domas — and, for what it’s worth, I think the combo of him and Booker will work well.
unfortunately it means we’re gonna have to get real cool with Jalen Green
Vivek sucks.
If I were the GM, I’d be completely fine only getting back expirings for both LaVine and DDR. If any money comes back, I’d want some minor draft capital or a youngish player who is not a SG.
For Sabonis, I’d expect a good young player and at least 1 FRP. Again, if any long-term money is coming back, I’d expect more draft capital but would be absolutely satisfied to take on a bad contract for additional ping pong balls.
I’d dump Schroeder, Westbrook, and Eubanks for any expiring/unguaranteed contract(s). I’d rather keep Monk if all possible.
Please: no Kuz, no LaMelo, no Ja, no Trae. DO NOT TRADE ELLIS.
Sabonis has shown he is a centerpiece (literally and figuratively), but he can’t do it alone. We know that he and Fox were a great combination, around which Monk and Keegan thrived. Harrison Barnes was kind of the glue that held them together–and he’s gone, too, replaced by a highly talented individual scorer, DeMar DeRozan. Management then stupidly traded away Fox and now we’re left with a very athletic, talented individual scorer (LaVine) whose game and style isn’t conducive to winning consistently.
Eubanks is trying. His effort is obvious. He’s just not a talented player, but he hustles and produces in his role.
Other than that, Schroder has been a disappointment, and while Russ is a great player, he has no future here other than being a mentor.
Agree: no Kuz, no LaMelo, no Ja, no Trae. DO NOT TRADE ELLIS.
I don’t want Kuminga at all. Vivek /Kings are fucking idiots. Don’t trade for somebody who cannot shoot.
I mean, it’s really not that hard. Get players who can shoot get players who can defend and go from there.
Vivek doesn’t operate from a place of logic. He operates on his own whims, fantasies, and ego.
Exactly. And he’s an asshole.
The entire Kings roster is worth less than any NBA team’s second-string point guard. This is why English Football relegates the bad teams to lower tier leagues. The Kings would be in a league with Rapid City and Toledo vying to sign Anthony Bennett from the Bahraini Basketball League. I loath this roster. Just release everyone and convince Silver to allow us an expansion draft.
I don’t know if the Kings are more Everton (still hanging on in the Premier League despite years of underperforming and facing financial sanctions for being terrible in their pricey acquisitions) or, I don’t know, Sheffield Wednesday or Derby County and put into administration because their owner was so bad and couldn’t even pay player salaries anymore.
Yes get rid of Derozan ASAP please, he is my least favorite current King. He ruins the offense and plays no defense, he’s an average bench player IMO.
The dude can get a bucket. He, and his $10M guarantee for next season, with have value to a contender. He’d be a short term hired gun. I could see some apron team out of the blue (Cleveland?) swinging for him.
Kuminga’s game is too wild to build on this team. He’s very athletic with raw talent, but not what we need, aside from size, strength and speed. IMO.
