The Kings won a barn-burner in their first preseason matchup against the Warriors Tuesday, punctuated by Kyle Guy’s game-winning 3-pointer, a play we later learned was designed for the win because no one wants preseason overtime basketball.

Guy’s buzzer-beater was just the capper of another excellent night for the two-way guard, who was made a case for consistent minutes during the regular season thanks to his command of the floor on the offensive end. Where those minutes come from as the fifth guard in the rotation are unclear, unless Guy somehow supplants Cory Joseph in what figures to be a developmental season for the Kings. Either way, look for Guy to continue his strong preseason stretch in which he has shot 50 percent from the field and been the third-leading scorer for the team despite playing substantially fewer minutes than other rotation players.

Other than Guy, the man to keep an eye on is Marvin Bagley III, who suited up for the first time since Jan. 20 in the third preseason game. It was refreshing to see that Bagley’s burst and leap resembled his pre-injury form, but it will take some time for Bagley to regain the feel and actually improve his understanding of the NBA game. The floor seemed a little cramped with Bagley and Richaun Holmes together, so it will be interesting to see if Bagley spends any time next to Nemanja Bjelica or Frank Kaminsky. Otherwise, it was great to have him back. Hopefully tonight is the continuation of a consistent streak of production.

One last player of interest in this game is Hassan Whiteside. His debut showed off a lot of the things he does well; that he was able to do them against the Warriors, a spread offense designed to pick on him, was exciting. Whiteside is a player archetype who simply doesn’t exist elsewhere on the roster, and the players and coaches all seem to have high hopes for his production. It should be fun to watch him continue to bully Kevon Looney, Marquese Chriss, and Kaleb Wesson.
