Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown was named Western Conference coach of the month for February, the league announced today. The Kings went 8-4 in February, including 4 straight wins coming out of the All-Star Break.

Brown led the Kings to an 8-4 record (.667) in February, the second-most wins in the Western Conference during the month, as Sacramento is currently on a four-game win-streak out of the All-Star break. In February, the Kings led the NBA with seven games where they scored 120+ points, which included a 176-175 win in double overtime against the LA Clippers on Feb. 24, marking the second-highest scoring game in NBA history. The Kings ranked first in the NBA in points per game (125.8) and offensive rating (121.2) and went a perfect 7-0 in February in games where they scored 120 points or more.
It’s a fantastic recognition for Mike Brown and the job he’s done this season, and hopefully it’s simply a precursor to a Coach of the Year Award.
Not only has Mike Brown led the Kings to an incredible surprise season and the league’s best offense, but the Kings held onto the third seed in the West for the entire month of February. Despite the expectations from outsiders than Sacramento will fall back to Earth or be overtaken by other contenders, the Kings have held firm.

I was going to say coach of the decade. I hated the obvious nepotistic Walton hire as much as I loved the Brown hire. Coach of the year award for sure.
The thing is, during the pre season we were just relieved that we didn’t choose Mark Jackson. We were more excited about the other candidates, and we considered Brown just like a meh option. How wrong we were, this guy is a legit coach and seems to be a great, great guy.
That was my reaction at the time, for sure. But hiring this version of Mike Brown was the best move Monte has made. So happy to be wrong.
Speaking of Meh… It looks like the Crypters are legit broken but totally not because of the new point gaurd.
Guess what? Monte, who has spent many years, full-time, as a profession, evaluating talent and had proven good at it, knew better. What a surprise! Who would have thought it?
And Mike Brown, who has spent decades coaching talent and drawing the best out of players, is good at it. Who would have thought that?

Crazy. The 4th-10th seeds in the West have a range of 29-32 losses. It is going to be an absolute dogfight to get to the postseason.
But not with the LA teams… Those dogs won’t hunt.
Over the last 4 games the duds have changed and are now playing well and a threat. Crypters are fading- and after just beating the duds 2 weeks ago !
For you stats people out there- “the thing is”- over the next 20 or so games, what do the Kings have to do relative to GSW to stay ahead of their surge? GSW 14-6 and Kings 10-10 will do it?
I really hope the kings don’t end up playing the warriors in the first round. Our first playoff birth in 16 years will be tainted by warriors fans in the G1C.

Just binge watched all 7 episodes of ‘The Run’, it’s a show on YouTube following the Kings this year (you probably already know). You can’t help but love Mike Brown after watching this show, coolest coach and one of the best. The way he built this squad and coaching staff has been pure genius, it’s all about joy, as it should be. Awesome show too, can’t wait for rest of it, WOW what a year we deserve it more than anyone. Can’t wait to be at all the games this month, damn show got me extra hyped. Love Domas on The Run as well, what a cast of characters we’ve assembled.
I must have rewinded that moment of Huerters game winning three against Utah at least 30 times. The way the crowd erupts is absolutely epic.
Too many people forget he has been at this for a long time.
Think back and remember all the head coaches the Kangz had while Brown was trying to work himself back into that role. Brown has done more in the last week than any Kangz coach has done in the last five to ten years.

Congratulations coach Mike. Great name, BTW. He hasn’t aged a bit since that 2008 photo. Kawhi not playing. Weak. I’ve lost respect for him on that account. Probably has taken more time off than any other player in the NBA over the past 5 years for “load management”. Great player………when he decides to play. He should forfeit pay when he takes days off.

I’ll be the first to admit I wasn’t very excited when Mike Brown was hired. I knew he’d be an upgrade over Walton, but I also thought Brown’s success as a coach was mostly due to LeBron and then the Warriors.
I’m VERY happy to his interviews! He seems like such a great person and leader. Definitely glad he was given an opportunity as a head coach again!
I suspect that Coaches, like players, find their best success with the right team at the right time with the right GM and the right situation.
Phil Jackson for example. Doug Collins is a fine coach and was doing the job for the Chicago Bulls until they hired The Zen Master – the rest is history. Sacramento was mired in mediocrity until they hired Geoff Petrie who hired Rick Adelman who was fired from his Golden State job. Again, the rest is history.
Mike Brown has been the right person for the Sacramento – IMO, mostly because he understands that Sacramento has been a dumping ground for players who think of Sac as either a landing spot for the later years (Zach Randolph, George Hill, Vince Carter, etc) or as a stopover before they move on to another team or are out of the League. Or a place that drafted them (think of the agents who wouldn’t let their draftees even work for Sacramento). The culture for Sacramento has been disgraceful. It was awful with the Maloofs and unfortunately, The Genius Vivek made it a different form of just as bad.
A new era has been born with Coach Brown and the recently extended GM McNair/Wilcox.
“Artificial” is doing the heavy lifting in the name “Artificial Intelligence”.
