It’s funny to listen to the Keon comments with last night’s game in mind…
“fake hustle”. coined.
I have a question for Jerry. When Sabonis got traded here, it became apparent that he was massively underrated by the general NBA media and fandom. Who are some other “Sabonis’” that Jerry thinks are currently flying under the radar and underrated?
I think the thing to mine for is players that may have a tool box that would work in this system but are toiling in a completely different system. Sabonis, for example, was labeled as being a ball stopper in Indy, when the real culprit was Carlisle’s offense.
On a scale much smaller than Sabonis, I could see Kispert as a guy that would be much better here than Washington. I wouldn’t want to pay Ingram’s freight, but I think that he would be much better in this system than New Orleans’. There are probably a lot more that could spring to mind – Bobby Portis has been a shell of himself under Doc Rivers. Coincidence?
Like you, I would be interested in Jerry’s thoughts.
Well stated, Rob. I’ll only add that today’s NBA is so incredibly deep with talent that there are guys riding bench minutes who can really contribute. An example is ATL acquiring Dyson Daniels. He went from bench role player in N.O. to a starter and DPOY candidate in ATL in the span of a few months.
There are guys out there that just need a change of scenery’s and system. Bobby Portis could be that type of guy. I’m hoping Monte is keeping a pulse on the league.
Agreed 100%.
If you want Kispert, you really don’t like defense. I watched a lot of Washington and he’s clueless on that side of the floor. It isn’t even for lack of trying, he just can’t.
Well, I didn’t say that I wanted Kispert, just that he could very well be better here than he is in Washington. Also, as a bench wing, he would be a marked improvement over McDermott.
Kispert begins a 4/$54m contract next season, which is probably more than you want to pay a guy that would best served as a bench boost. But he’s also a career 38.5% shooter from deep, with true shooting of 61.7%.
The emphasis here is that Kispert is an example of a player that might be better in the Kings’ system than the Wizards’.
Enjoyed the thoughts on Ellis and how the guys felt he was a better fit as a starter than Huerter . Seems most agreed with these insights even before last nite .
Somebody needs to explain that to Brown.
Brown is stuck in his ways.
Huerter had confidence issues last season during training camp when Duarte was being considered in competition for starting. Seems Huerter might have some self-confidence/fragile ego issues.
I remember Bobby Hurley getting a career high 17 assists in one game and thinking, wow, that’s pretty impressive. Sad that it didn’t work out because of all of the points Jerry recalled.
And of course Ricky Berry’s passing was really sad.
