All-Star Friday Open Thread

Keegan Murray is our only reason to care about anything today.

Feb 17, 2023; Salt Lake City, UT, USA; Team Pau forward Keegan Murray (13) reacts against Team Deron in the 2023 NBA All Star Rising Stars Game at Vivint Arena. Mandatory Credit: Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

While I remain bitter at both Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox being snubbed for the All-Star Game, I take solace in knowing that Fox and Domas will both get some well-deserved rest to recharge for the remainder of the season. The Kings are woefully underrepresented at All Star weekend, but weren’t shut out entirely. Keegan Murray will represent the Kings in tonight’s Rising Stars Game (it has a corporate sponsorship attached to its official name, but I’m not getting a cut of that deal so I’m not calling it that).

The full schedule of today’s events:

2:30 PM PT – Basketball Hall of Fame News Conference – NBATV – Hopefully Kings Legend Vince Carter gets inducted.

4:00 PM PT – All Star Celebrity Game – ESPN – Kings Legend Metta World Peace is playing. Aside from him, I only recognize like four other participants. I am old, leave me alone, and get off my lawn.

6:00 PM PT – Rising Stars Game – TNT – Keegan shows a bunch of young scrubs how it’s done.

Use this as an open thread for all of the day’s festivities.

NBA All-Star break is when we get to see what media members vacation like they’re in the league. 🙂

The snubs suck of course, but in terms of the Kings remaining season, I couldn’t be happier that Fox and Domas are getting some rest to recover.

I’m also thrilled for Keegan, just being a part of these activities will continue to drive him to greatness. I hope he continues to get invites/earn opportunities like practicing or playing with the Olympic squad, it has helped improve many players games.

I believe the last time we had someone make a mark in this game was Bogi back in 2018. Have fun out there Keegs but yeah don’t get hurt either 🤘🏽🙏🏽🤘🏽

Scott Pollard got his heart transplant. Glad to hear he is recovering.

More important than anything the NBA has going on.

Get well!

Unless there was a sub out at the 11th hour (some talk of holding Kawhi out) – where do you think Domas went?
Cancun with the family?
Kick back at Napa?
Lost Wages?
Indy?

Just gonna tune out all of the ASB activities, including whatever Keegan’s doing. I just can’t bring myself to give a shit about this nonsense.

Sums up my feelings . This is a basketball event not a competitive game .

It would be awesome if he wins it, but it could also mean the Kings can’t afford to retain him this summer. Truly a double edged sword.

I don’t think him winning it or not will much impact his price tag.

Also, he shouldn’t take away the 6th man award from the Kings fans.

The rising stars game should be the only game thats part of this weekend. Really though, this nba weekend just shouldn’t exist. Period

Just change it to an end of season all star game or get rid of the entire thing. no one gives a shit

I think that the last one I watched to completion, was the one where Magic Johnson played his last one. It’s the one where some players didn’t want to play because of his HIV status.

I am hopeful Domas and Fox take in or read about all the events at All Star weekend.

Nate Archibald was completely ignored and so insulted not making the team on 1971-72, and even moreso for not being a starter, that he played with a vengeance the rest of the season and played with the same fire the next season to become the only player in the history of the league to finish first in scoring and assists. He remains so.

I think Domas and Fox may well rip the league a new asshole the rest of the season.

I hope they are watching.

This is the first year I’ve watched All Star weekend in a very long time. My 7 year old has really gotten into basketball three last two years and we had a blast watching the Saturday night events. Friday night was decent too, the youngsters played just hard enough to make it fun. The actual All-Star game though, what a joke. We tuned it off after half time.

I watched a little of the skills challenge, 3 point contest and Stephanie vs Sabrina. Didn’t bother with the game today. Installed A-arm guards on my Honda Talon. Figured that was a better use of my time.

Didn’t watch the game, but from the scoreit looked like a Kings game. No defense.
