The NFL Draft begins tonight at 5 PM PT, so the first pick should be in sometime around 6:45. Use this thread to talk about the picks, any trades, or anything else related to the night’s draft.
Yes, we know we’re a basketball site, but we’re also a community and we enjoy discussing these things with each other. Besides, sometimes paying attention to different teams is way more fun than paying attention to the Kings.
Football? YAWN.
Parity, who needs it.
Oh, so not just basketball, eh?
Well, if anyone wants to discuss the Marbula One season or the upcoming Marble League season, I’m here for it. Representing the Savage Speeders and Team Galactic.
I root for the Crazy Cat’s Eyes, who are hosting this year’s Marble League.
You guys are killing it in Marbula One. (Congrats on the championship) Red Eye is unreal.
Yeah, looking forward to the Crazy Cat’s Eyes hosting it this year! Hoping it’s as amazing as last season when Team Galactic hosted.
(I run the twitter accounts for Rapidly and Coach Black Hole)
I need to catch up on Marbula One. Likely similar to other newish fans, I first started watching marble events last year in the quarantine, especially the Marble Games. Crazy Cat’s Eyes had a great start to last year’s Marble Games and then lost steam as the games went on. Hopefully hosting inspires them to an overall podium finish.
D’oh! Sorry for the spoilers–forget I said anything.
Well, you will surely enjoy this season of Marbula One as a CCE’s fan.
The Marble Games during quarantine were so memorable–having John Oliver as a sponsor brought millions of eyes to the games, which made it really fun to be interacting with fans on twitter. As a Savage Speeder’s fan, it was one of the most thrilling things to watch that epic comeback. So different than being a Kings fan!
Qualifiers for the final race of Marbula One are up in about an hour…!
I just watched the Marble League triathlon event from a few days ago, and that disqualification for the Crazy Cat’s Eyes was total BS!
Trey Lance is cute and I’m glad he’s playing for my closest geographical NFL football club!
Sad day to be a bears fan. Lord, moving up 9 spots cost that much?
You should be excited. Justin fields is really good.
Was it less expensive for the Bears to grab Fields than it was for the Niners to grab Lance?
The tale of the tape will be whether these guys develop into stars. If they do, the trades were a steal. If not, both deals suck.
Just following up after looking into it, it appears that both teams moved up nine slots, with both teams giving up their ’22 1st (Niners also gave up ’22 3rd, Bears ’22 4th). In addition, the Niners gave up their ’23 1st, while the Bears gave up their ’21 6th.
So the Niners gave up more (via the ’23 1st), but also got their pick of Lance and Fields.
Happy to see the Patriots get a potential #3 pick at #15 without having to give up any picks.
Anyone else shaking their heads after watching the former TV analysts that run their team take a 4th round OL in the first round?
Trey Lance will be a super star, take it to the bank. Why can’t our FO maneuver like the Niners FO, oh that’s right we’re the Kangz
I’ll give the 9ers credit. They take chances and will go for it.
Fuck I wasn’t reading carefully and thought I had missed this years NBA draft pick position.
NFL who cares. Do any CAL prospects look good?
There is a lot of hope for the Kings. More than I can recall in a long time. The tone and tenor of this site leaves a lot to be desired! Where is the guiding voice of reason and wisdom? Don’t worry, here I am!
Why would we NOT get crushed by the Jazz, a finely tuned machine setting 3 point records, when Ty plays terrible 1st half and Wright plays terrible a terrible first half in the absence of Fox and Kyle is buried at the end of the bench? We need our two rotational PGs to be good to fantastic compete minus our Superstar. And when the 4th string PG is treated like a dirty dish rag, there is no semblance to your attack.
Maybe that pathetic drubbing will lead fans to have more appreciation for HB as a wing and overall defender. I have said many times how vital a skill it is to be able to check wings on interior and perimeter and keep them from going off. The Jazz are loaded with capable wings in Bojan, Ingles, Ilysova and Niong. Who do we have to match up? Minus HB, we have Moe Scoreless.
When you are thin along the wing to begin with against a wing dominant team, and your PGs are a 1st half no-show , you are going to get obliterated. And just like our guys played inspired without Fox vs Mavs and GSW, the Jazz played inspired minus Donovan. Thats not unusual because they get chances to strut their stuff they would otherwise not get.
You can make the argument “well, you should never lose by 50 points on your home floor”, which is just trite and simplistic thing to say. Anything is possible in sport competition, it is a dynamic and organic process. Anything is possible. And the other mindless assertion, well “if only the players were not so apathetic.” Like if only they “cared more” the problems would be solved?
The claim if there was a “collective attitude adjustment” all would be right in Kings Land is song siren of the oblivious. Competitve pride kicks in no matter where your mind may be preceding tipoff. You do not want to get shown up. You want to show out. And in this context talent is king. There are nights the best teams in the NBA bring 90% of their effort, minds wander and they lose focus, there are indiviudals within the group distracted about their playing time and shot attempts that may adversely affect their sustained effort level.
But talent-rich teams, which includes a talent rich coaching, can absorb these issues and compete and win when the collective effort level slips below 100%. Teams with average to below average talent do not have as much margin for error. So commentator asserting otherwise needs to get a clue and understand context along with other commentators around her who thinks the past is only a precursor to the future. If you think that, you should not be here. You are actually a glutton for punishment, if the team makes you “miserable” yet you are back for more?
The fact is, fans do NOT think it is hopeless or they would not keep coming back. So stop lying to yourself and others that is hopeless because you are not bring quality substance to the forum with a contention that you do not even believe! A fan of a losing team is hardly a trial and tribulation like jail or homelessness or countless other things I do not have to mention. I have enjoyed the games and most of this season and will continue to do so! It has been at least 2 years since there is not been one player that I am opposed to being in the rotation, which is the case now.
Everyone playing for the Kings now, with probable exception of Harkless, who had his moments now fading fast, I endorse being on the court. Harkless days are ending soon, Bagley is on his way out, and Buddy is 50/50 on returning as a sub under a new and better coach. Then we draft Jalen Johnson or Kuminga, a few more tweaks by McGenius, and the Glory Days are back!
This is the real state of the team, not those wallowing in hopelessness spouting garbage and engaged in immature self-pity, as if rooting for a bad team is a death sentence. We have our Superstar and we have a GM who will put the right players around said star. When could you ever say that about a Kings team in SAC history since C-Webb was added and Petrie did what he did? Well, we are pretty much back in the same place and anyone who “feels” differently needs to ignore their feelings and look objectively at the recent facts.
