It’s finally here! It’s lottery day! For a few more fleeting hours we can continue to hope the lottery gods will smile upon Sacramento!
When: 5:30 PM PT
How to watch: ESPN
The Sacramento Kings will be represented by Kings GM Monte McNair on the dais.
The Kings enter the lottery 9th in the order. This means the Kings have a 4.5% at the number one overall pick, and a 20.3% chance at the top 4. The Kings have a 50.72% chance at picking 9th, and 25.9% chance of picking 10th.
That’s right, the odds of the Kings moving back one spot are greater than the odds of the Kings moving into the top 4. Brace yourself, my friends, as we stare into the abyss once more.
As is tradition, we ask that everyone visit Tankathon, sim the lottery one time, and tell us where the Kings land in your sim. Don’t cheat or it will ruin this very scientific process.
Klam, you changed your avatar!
Before I became a Kings fan I thought that “hope springs eternal” was just an expression, not an actual thing.
We got 1st! I swear I didn’t cheat.
11
the darkest timeline
12th is the darkest timeline. No?
The darkest timeline is that Monte McNair was hired for being the biggest ring kisser among the bunch.
WE WINNING RINGS!!???
Oh shoot. You meant kiss “that” ring. 🙁
Oh, what gupta been. :p
#9
#1 first try!
It’s destiny !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to get in on this “sim lottery.”
Luka was destiny.
…and VD was density.
Three seasons, two First Team All-NBA selections, two playoff appearances.
First spin: #2 – Evan Mobley (Big man at #2 frightens me. I don’t know why..)
“Hi!”
#9, Franz Wagner. I guess that’s okay?
That doesn’t spell Marcus Bagley
No.
#10
Why watch the lottery, when you can read it in short-story form and get the same result as the Kings are about to get…

It’s rock night at Golden 1. Who’s the lucky fan to get stoned?
That should be mandatory for every Kings Fan and deservedly so ð
Put the stone down.
😛
I played the Lottery and All I got was a rock.
Your thoughts would be appreciated: How high would the Kings need to jump for you to consider the pick too good to use in a trade deal (barring something extremely in the Kings’ favor)?
Higher than Brad Miller.
Who’s higher than Brad Miller? Wait, wha…?
Oh, and if you want to clarify which player you absolutely must have with this pick, other than Cade, I’d love to know.
I’m thinking 5, but it would all depend on who the trade was centered around.
In addition to Cade I like Jalen Green and Kuminga.
Green sure looks like he can be great, and Kuminga certainly has the physical tools to be a good NBA player. I’m with you at about 4 or 5, although Mobley would sure be a nice fit, given the lack of quality big men.
Green should be a great scorer, but I’m worried about the other aspects of his game. Though Kuminga’s defense would really help the Kings, I’m worried about his offense. I’d much rather have Mobley & Suggs than them.
I’d say #2. Cade and Green look like the no-brainer, immediate impact stars in this draft to me. I’m sure there will be other stars, but their paths are less definite to me, so if they were off the board I’d consider moving the pick and the necessary veteran assets for an established star.
I think at two I’d have to take Mobley. He’s a stretch big who offers rim protection, and I expect as he adds weight, he could be a legit two-way player.
Green should be a great scorer, but I’m worried about the other aspects of his game. I think Mobley & Suggs have a better chance of being stars.
I wouldn’t trade a top 3 pick. Whether or not I’d trade #4 would depend on who was taken in the top 3 & who was being offered for #4. I’d rather have Cade, Mobley or Suggs than any of the trade targets that seem realistic.
That feels about right.
Obligatory Kings Draft Lottery Result GIF:
Never seen that before. It really needs the Curb Your Enthusiasm music over the shot of Jerry at the end.
Maybe the truest thought ever expressed.
I could honestly hear the music while watching it. Jerry’s expression and mannerisms is perfect.
Tankathon first run : Moved up to #3.
We’ll now move down to #10 in the actual lottery. You’re welcome.
First roll today: Had the Kings picking 10th. Had a screenshot then deleted it like an idiot.
Took me 3 rolls to get the Kings to move up. Ended up 2nd. I’d take it!
The question isn’t how high of a pick we will get…the question is how high of a pick do we get to screw up.
“Monte, I’ll say the same thing to you that I said to Vlade: You mess up, and you’ll have to shave your head.”
Speaking of hair….is it just me or does Vivek seem like he’s growing his hair out in that picture?
He’s been pulling it out trying to explain 4 vs 5 jazz-hands basketball to McNair who, wisely, doesn’t give a fuck…
No complaints, that would be a nice way to add real talent no matter how Monte decides to use it…
#10
I stayed at 9.
But I’ve always had strange luck, so who knows.
“GOOD LUCK.”
-Chris Webber
Whoa whoa whoa, timeout here.
I just landed us the first pick! I bet Vivek will just trade down for Jimmer anyway, tho…
On my third simulation the kings moved up to the top spot. On simulation one kings stay put and simulation 2 they picked 10th.
That averages to
6.66
Sounds about right.
The number of the Beast.
Hell and fire was spawned to be released.
Isaiah Jackson needs to be in the convo for us if we end up at #9….major skills! And the last time we drafted a skinny kid from Kentucky it worked out pretty well.
I think I probably like this kid more than Kai Jones because he has more economy of motion and defensive discipline. I like too he blocks shots with his off-hand, a major plus that was lacking in Willie .
Even though Kentucky had a bad season Jackson had the best ORtg and best DRtg (112-91; +21) on the team, suggesting he should have played more and he is a glue guy on both ends.
What I like about Jackson is he fits our highest need, defensive minded wing (4/3), who can make plays as a rookie with hustle, effort, pick and roll, lob threat, etc.
This guy has decisive and aggressive scoring moves. Untapped offensive potential ! I can see where through normal shot development, his shot mechanics are hardly broken, and 20 pounds of muscle he could become a Siakum-like player.
I am still leaning Alphren bc he has a special quality that screams star, but Jackson is a sleeper that McGenius will not dismiss readily. McGenius likes players with high block and steal rates and Jackson had a 2.1% steal rate and insane 12.7% block rate.
Is it possible to bring Jones, Alphren and Jackson to SAC pre-draft and have them play 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 ? Thats what I would want to do but I suspect many of these player agents are unwilling to expose their player to this scrutiny, fearful of negative consequences going against your competition. But a confident capable player should have nothing to hide!
I am feeling better about #9 if we stay there. Alphren, Jackson and Davion Mitchell are all intriguing prospects. Even throw Kessler Edwards in there too.
When Jackson makes a play that does not work , you can see the idea was there. Unlike guys like Wagner, Scottie Barnes, and Moses Moody, who have cringe elements to there lesser moments. This is one way project success, the prospect looks good even at their “worst”.
Isn’t the last skinny kid we took from Kentucky named Skal Labissière?
Nope. It was Fox.
You are absolutely correct, I really thought Fox was here when Skal was drafted.
All of it just runs together in a blur…
Stayed at 9 on my first shot. However on 2nd try, Sac moved into 2nd. We’ll see this evening. We’re probably moving to 10th. Fudge.

Post Fail.
But anyways, did this back in March when we were 17-24 and we jumped up to 1 on my first try. Haven’t done it since and don’t plan to lol may the basketball gods have mercy
So close yet so far
I mean, we did have the pick to take the best player in the draft.
But instead we had a numbskull GM who we wouldn’t fire, who screwed everything up, who hired a numbskull coach who we won’t fire, who….
The history of this team is a series of traumatic events.
I remember feeling so elated that Draft Lottery night because we literally were in a no-lose situation with the second pick (either Ayton or Luka was going to us), and all of those good feelings came crashing and burning on draft night.
I remember telling my wife, “I’m actually glad we are #2, instead of #1. Then nobody can shitcan the Kings if the pick doesn’t work.”
Because literally everyone had Ayton and Doncic at 1 or 2 in some order.
Little did I know…
I cant remember a more obvious failed pick in any sport in my lifetime.
So lucky the one and only sports team I worship was the one to pull that shit stunt.
9th, which means I have nine drinks before the lottery.
My first tankathon mock had the kings stay at 9th. Second had them jump to 4. Hope the kings jump up and not down.
#10 =( But the Spurs moved up to #2, so there’s hope for those with bad odds! (?)
I hit SIM lottery and got 9, but I got #3 on first try with SIM Mock Draft. They had us taking Jalen Green.
Maybe the basketball Gods will favor us today.
Good day everybody. I’m here to share a testimony of how Dr. Kumar helped me to win the lottery. Words are not enough to thank him for the great thing he has done for me, he has really changed my life for good. I have been playing lottery for years now and I have never won a big money before, i got so tired of it until and i decide to look for ways to improve my chances of winning and i saw a testimony online of how Dr. Kumar has helped alot of people to win lottery by casting spells.. I quickly contacted him on the email that was present on one of the comments and explain my problem to him which he cast spell on my winning numbers and gave them to me to play and behold i won the sum of (135,000,000 USD). I’m a happy man now and i am totally greatfull to Dr Kumar for what he did for me. If you need his help to win the lottery, you can contact him on WhatsApp +2347051705853 or email: spellcasttemple@gmail.com
As a Kings fan, this is how I view this whole lotto/draft process:
Stayin’ at #9.
Stayed at 9. Hope it’s wrong!
Yep, same.
Dropped to #10 (with NOP moving to #4)
3! With that pick of trade down for Scottie Barnes and assets.
Two years in a row picking 12th! Book it!
Did it five times and got 9, 9, 9, 10, and then 4. Stopped there
10th pick
…and we press the lottery button and…
So in a 60 pick draft the Kings somehow are picking 9999999th?
His spirit lives on.
2018 photo caption, one week prior to draft:
“I know we all just had dinner last week with Luka and told him we would take him if Phoenix didn’t, but man, I’m looking at these YouTube videos of Melvin Bunkley and he can really jump high, especially the second time around. We could have a young super team if we picked him. Shit yeah, that’s the pick right there …”
1st no lie on tankathon today first try, which makes me feel even worse for the actual pinball. Honestly Lottery day is possibly the worst I feel about this team each season. I get excited for it every year beyond my better judgement which then makes me judge myself. Possibly because its the clearest example that I care more than I should. Realism dictates most of my perceptions on this team, along with apathy emotionally, but lottery day gets me thinking of what ifs I know I shouldnt.
Luck when incompetence or poor strategies are the norm is both the only hope but also by nature unlikely and thus a fairly pathetic way to solve your problems. Regardless so much wrong with this franchise could be or can only be rectified with good fortunes. I guess its sad to think thats the case.
Enjoy the what ifs Kings fans for the next couple of hours. All we can do is hope for the best.
Am I the only one here who looks forward the draft order day more that the actual draft selections? It’s here that you know your number and can focus on the 4-5 realistic picks at that spot.
For sure today is more exciting…today is full of possibilities. A month from now you know it will likely be between a handful of guys.
One of which will be named Papagiannis….
9th. Sorry fam.
Kangz have me so messed up I’m scared we’ll get the #1 pick because I know we’ll find a way to screw it up.
The Kings stayed at #9. Cleveland got #1.
9th pick first time on PC. 4th when I had to login to TKH on my phone so I could comment.
I’m perplexed: for the first time since before Vlade was the GM we’re not sending in some feel good guy to the draft, I read Monte will be representing us. On one hand I think this possibly signifies the end of the feel good crap that they try to feed fans as a way to keep us engaged, which means perhaps we see some winning culture in the near future and being 15+ years removed I’m afraid I won’t know how to take “winning”. I got a tattoo that says “KANGZ” on the other…
Tankathon’ed three times and got 10, 2, and 9
I got 9, 4, 1
If we do jump up to number 1 and take Cade-what would ideal moves around him be for you?
I think this is a realistic lineup we could get. If we traded for Simmons, we would have to get a guy like Turner or Holmes (who can shoot).
Fox, Wright, Guy
Haliburton, Davis, James
Cade, Harkless
Barnes, Metu, Bagley
Turner (Robinson, Allen, or Holmes), Jones
I’ll take this!!! We got Turner by only giving up Buddy Hield.
It will be great when hopefully someday we are talking about “tonight’s playoff game” and not the Annual Loser Fest, er, lottery like we normally do.
The basketball gods don’t owe us shit … they gifted us Luka and we told them to go fuck themselves.
Here’s a fun peek back at the 2018 Lottery:
Ayton
Bagley
Doncic
Jackson
Young
Bamba
Carter
Sexton
Knox
Mikal Bridges
Gilgeous-Alexander
Miles Bridges
Robinson
Porter Jr.
Seriously, I would take any of those picks other than maybe Knox and Robinson over Pervis Bagley.
Hopefully we pick 10th so that someone like Haliburton can fall in our laps again.
(And no, I don’t want the #1 pick and Cade Cunningham … because that would be “taking the ball out of Fox’s hands,” wouldn’t it?)
Oh yeah … Go Kings!
My guess is we’re getting a top 3 pick.
So it is said – so it shall be.
Well lookie here!
Kings got #3 in my simulation!
2nd pick here we come. Hopefully not tenth or 11th….
P 9. Come on MM. Bring us some luck
first attempt LFG!
Damn, that was sad…SIMM lotto gave Kings 10th. Pelicans jumped 7 to #3.
Lotto 2 even worse. Kings drop to 12. GS gets #1. I will flip out of that happens.
