According to a report from Ian Begley of Sportsnet New York, the Sacramento Kings have recently spoken with multiple teams regarding a Buddy Hield trade, and the Kings are seeking draft assets in return for the disgruntled shooting guard’s services. Begley goes on to note that no talks between the Kings and the New York Knicks or any other team should be considered imminent, but the recent Russell Westbrook-John Wall trade also perfectly exemplifies how quickly potential transactions can accelerate in the NBA. If the Knicks do show interest in Hield, they can offer one or more of their six draft picks in the next three years as compensation.
The revelation that Monte McNair has been shopping Hield should come as no great surprise, as Buddy has made it abundantly clear through his social media activity, his post-bubble comments, and his reported refusal to speak to Head Coach Luke Walton that he has no wish to remain in Sacramento long-term. However, the Kings asking for draft picks in exchange for Hield is an encouraging sign for a fan base accustomed to General Managers pushing for hopeless playoff runs that never come to fruition. Between this rumor and the failed Bogdan Bogdanovic trade to the Milwaukee Bucks, which would have brought two young assets back to Sacramento, it seems as though Sacramento’s new management is keen to reset and get younger and cheaper around De’Aaron Fox – a necessary change for a soon-to-be expensive team with little hope of making the postseason in the next year or two.
If the Kings are able to deal Buddy Hield and Harrison Barnes for little to no future salary in the coming months, the only guaranteed contracts for the 2020-2021 season will be De’Aaron Fox, Marvin Bagley, Tyrese Haliburton, Robert Woodard, and Jahmi’us Ramsey, a complete monetary and age-related reset.
It remains to be seen if and when the Kings will send Buddy Hield out of Sacramento, especially with the possible need to rebuild his value after his poor showing last season, but if they can gain a significant draft asset or two in such a transaction, Monte McNair and his crew will be well on their way toward rebuilding the franchise around cornerstone De’Aaron Fox.
Complete speculation on my part, but I don’t think Buddy will even be at training camp. I’m not saying he’ll be traded by Sunday, but if I’m McNair I’m not risking some fluke injury if I’ve made up my mind that Buddy won’t be on the roster opening night.
I agree with that. It would take a lot to patch things up with Luke and Buddy imo. Get rid of them both.
Has he been seen in the practice gym yet?
Nope. Has not been seen.
Have there been any reports of Kings players who possibly tested positive for COVID? Has Bagley been seen?
I’m wondering this also.
My guess is he goes to Boston into that massive trade exception. Something like Buddy for Nesmith + a top-20 protected pick seems fair.
Know who else fit into that exception in Boston? BOTH Barnes and Holmes.
This works also.
That being said, I don’t think Boston would want Holmes, being they they have Theis and just signed Thompson. Buddy is likely the better option for them. He could return Smart to his super 6th man status and bolster their guard depth.
I just might do Buddy for Nesmith straight up. A Fox, Hali, Nesmith guard rotation would be the bee’s knees going forward.
That’s assuming Rese and Nesmith pan out. Let’s not forget that. But, as always, we’ll see.
This works for me also.
If Boston does that deal I’ll be ecstatic! Big fan of Nesmith but sadly I don’t think Boston has any interest.
I would hope so.
Hooray!
If any team will give up too much for Buddy…it would be the Knicks.
Damn. Buddy about get another “Welcome to Hell” from a different fanbase…

And he’s gotta watch out for those New York taxis.

Can we get him to have this attitude instead of what we saw last season?
We’d probably have to take back Bobby Bonilla’s salary through 2035.
Can we get obi toppin then? Or mitchell/noel and a pick, preferably mitchell.
So are we thinking Buddy to Knicks and Barnes to Boston (with that fat trade exception they just got)?
Was McNair actively shopping Buddy, or were teams contacting McNair about Buddy and he gave them the asking price? Or a combination?
Probably a combination and then someone in the Knicks leaked it to the press. Just my guess.
Knox and the Dallas 1st next year (owned by NYK). Get it done
Honestly, I would take the 2021 DAL first and the 2021 CHA second.
That 2021 Dallas pick could be gold. There is no guarantee they make the playoffs in the loaded West. Another lottery ticket is never a bad thing.
They ought to. We did them a tremendous favor a couple of years ago.
I’d expect it to be somewhere around 20. Which I’d still do. There are going to be some good players available around 20 next draft. Heck, there are going to be some good players available at the CHA 2nd.
Oh, god no. Knox is a stiff.
Swap Knox with Ntilikina and I’m good.
Oooof, Knox is sooo awful. Like AWFUL awful. Certified draft bust.
Cant blame Buddy for wanting to go to a more stable organization
“Colin Jost, how tall are you?”
“5’10 and a half. Why, Mr. Dolan?”
“Go in for Julius Randle.”
“Uh….I’m just the Weekend Update guy–“
“I SAID GET IN THERE! ……………and tell Randle he was pitiful.”
” ….(gulp)……”
Poor Colin. Somebody gave him that shitty hat and he knows he’s there’s no way in hell he defiles his signature hair with it.
It’s amazing just how much my and others’ views of Buddy have changed. Two years ago, Buddy was my favorite Kings player. He made all sorts of awesome “hustle plays,” shot the lights out, and basically charmed the entire city of Sacramento. Now most of us can’t wait to see what the Kings get in return for shipping him out. I guess that’s what happens when you go full diva. Never go full diva–even Kings fans will want you gone.
I’d actually say that “full diva” is the one thing Kings fans wont take.
I’m right there with you AmaturNerd.
Whatever year Buddy was drafted i was jokingly saying the kings should trade there next 10 draft picks so they can move up and get Buddy. oops
Then he was traded here and I was so happy.
Then he did well in Sacramento. I was even more happy.
Then he got his contract extension, I was even more happy then when I was more happy before.
Then he went full diva.
Now, I can’t stand looking at him. It’s a big reason why my excitement for this year is so very very very low. I want to see the young guys do well so I’m still on board.
Correct me if I’m wrong ArcoThunder. Don’t you have a collection of big reasons?
Buddy on his way to the Jason Terry, Spencer Hawes, George Hill, and Nick Staskaus club.
What fueled a lot of us is probably his disgruntled rants pre-extension talk followed with the kings fans are like that, one moment that love you and hate you the next. That sh*tty attitude is so toxic and immature for a 26 year old multi-millionaire. The city of Sacramento doesn’t owe him a dime.
Damn! Action!
Lots of Kangz news today. Keep it coming fellas!
It’s just like your deflowering: It’ll happen at the right time, and there will be a nice boy involved.
Ah, I thought you were gonna say “Both sides getting f@#$ed and yet still completely unsatisfied”
What a fascinating window into your world that you’ve opened for all of us!
Don’t sell low.
Two firsts or a first and a young player with potential.
Honestly, I’d do Buddy for Randle, straight up, and call it it day. With them drafting Toppin, already having Robinson, and signing Noel, I have to image they are looking to move Randle.
You’ve been trying to acquire Randle as long as I’ve been trying to sign O’Quinn.
Yup. I’ve wanted him for years. I remember he was who I wanted in free agency once the Kings drafted Doncic.
I also think he can run with Fox, is a willing passer and could play alongside of Bagley (If Bagley turns into something). If anything, he’s virtually an expiring deal that would be good trade material.
I wanted Randle that year, too.
Could you imagine having Fox, Buddy, Bogi, Luka and Randle right now? There would have been no need to trade for Barnes, then extend him.
I can imagine it and did. But….. I wasn’t as hyped as you were. There was many unknowns in that deal.
Having said that, I thought not taking Luka illustrated the lack of imagination Vlade and his FO had.
Randle and Walton would love that.
I remember hearing how Luke loved Randle and the same for Randle, that Walton really got him to be a better player in LA type of stuff. I also remember Luke saying something about how he would always put Randle on the toughest guy to defend.
so…
yeah…
Randle is a defensive stopper? Color me shocked. Really? Randle isn’t a good defender and he tries to do too much. His AST/TO ratio is terrible.
Git’r done Monte!
Buddy lost me when he became delusional; thinking that Sacramento should be grateful that a player of his caliber was willing to come here. He’s good, but not THAT good. I say ship him out for a couple draft picks and be done with his crappy attitude…
The 2021 draft is stacked. I think there are 6 possible players that would have gone above Edwards, Wiseman, & LeMelo in this draft. If Monte can somehow turn Buddy & Barnes into a top 10 pick plus having our own top 10 pick, that is the new core to our rebuild.
Conspiracy theory alert: The Kings leaked this after the article By Sam Amik came out painting Monty as a ding bat.
They’re just trying to spin the narrative away from the bad Bogi thing that was just revealed. Vivek will never allow Buddy to be traded, lets be real.
lol
If the Kings are looking to move Buddy get something tangible in return. Julius Randle plus the Dal 1st would do it for me.
I would reach a “let’s get weird” state of nirvana if the Kings rolled out a 5-man lineup of Jeffries/Woodard/Parker/Randle/Bagley. I’d call it the “but dunks are fun!” lineup.
I like where your head is at but Parker?
can that dude even jump anymore?
“but dunks are fun line up” =PG – Ramsey, SG – Jeffries, SF Woodard, PF Randle, C MBIII
No Randle trade then replace him with MBIII at PF and then put Holmes in at C
lol y’all sleep on Parker’s dunks. Here’s a 15 minute highlight video
(Jk he can barely get off the floor at this point)
Someday I’ll be daring enough to take the drugs you are on.
The only high I get is the adrenaline rush from seeing Jabari Parker’s TS% in 80 MP in a Kings uniform last season. Shoot that shit straight into my veins!
You’re trying to convince us you’re not using experimental drugs with comments like that? 🙂
Cmon bro, you can do better than that!
Just wait you’ll see. Jabari is a bucket ð¤
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
I like! Let’s go Monte ðð½
This is good news if we can get rid of Hield with just compensation.
it’s easier to root for the three new and younger players we got through the draft.
Tyrese, Robert and Jahmi’us
I can root for Buddy and the three rookies. Do you know how rookies excel, when they are on the floor with a player who demands a lot of attention. Thats Buddy and thats Fox, and hopefully Bagley as our other 20 PPG player.
Before last year I said Fox is our best scorer. He’s a better scorer than Buddy. At the time that was an unproven hypothesis. Now it is proven. Fox outscored Buddy 21-19 PPG. Fox creates more space for himself and gets to the FT line at 3X the rate.
How much of Fox’s emerging scoring prowess have we seen with Buddy returning to his 43% prowess from deep as a starter? I don’t think we have seen enough of it to scrap the “experiment”. A backcourt duo that can easily combine for 50 PPG, what it is not to like about that?!
I don’t know how many games Buddy and Fox started together, but between the injury Fox had and Buddy’s role of the bench I don’t think it was more than 20 games or so. I would like to see what Buddy and Fox can do with Fox emerging as a lethal scorer to help set up Buddy for more high quality 3s .
When Buddy is selectively shooting off the catch or 1-2 dribbles, he is a 60% TS%. We have not seen this duo at their peak yet, we should before breaking it up. And in this context, the rookies can pick their spots. In fact it will be easier for them because opponents are going to hedge off them to try to stop our elite backcourt.
I don’t really understand the ‘irreconcialable differences’ (1) Buddy did not like playing behind Bogi at SG. That issue has not been resolved. (2) Buddy does not like his coach.
Um, Walton should be looked with suspect. (Everyone here does, including myself). There is bound to be tension and unhappiness when a team underachieves and underperforms. The Kings were intent on making the 8th seed and folded again, two years in a row.
Do you know the bigger problem than the unhappy player when the team sucks and he played a significant part in the suck? The player who takes the suck in stride, a la Willie Stein, yucking it up in the lockerroom after getting smashed by 25 points.
The league puts a premium on shooting. Buddy is one of the premier shooters. When the guy gets hot it is a sight to behold.
Buddy was wrong to start pointing fingers post-Bubble when he was largely responsible for our collapse. But there was blame to go around. At least the guy cares. Is he passionate and impulsive? Yeah, and part of that nature is what makes him a fearless competitor.
If you want trade him because of his defensive lapses and careless TOs, that is another story. I think he will benefit playing with a more creative PG than Cory Joseph, a half court plodder who pounds the ball to death and creates little to no “gravity”, unlike a guy like Fox or Hali.
I see Bjelica as a non-rotational player. Bogi gone. If we want to space the floor we need a three point marksman. Not having shooting is how you get slaughtered. Barnes is spotty from deep. Our other guys are unproven. Buddy has set all-time records for MOST THREES MADE in league history (Top 5 , I think) over his first 3 seasons, fans want to peddle him off as soon as possible because ” prima donna”.
Prima donnas do not have tireless work ethic, they are not gym rats. Certainly Buddy needs to do a better job protecting the ball and checking his man and get FTs. With new players around him and maybe a new coach (if it comes to that) I do not see reason to afford him opportunity to do that here.
I respect and value his shooting and scoring and work ethic more than I disrespect his recent outburts of immaturity. It is born of frustration of a guy who is sick of the same old. I don’t have a problem with that as long as once he is done venting he is committed and focused to having his best season.
Buddy is capable of 58-60% TS%. At his volume, there is maybe 10-15 players capable of that.
There is one last thing. Last year our coach in his infinite wisdom set this goal of like 33 three point 3s per game as a team (I do not recall the specific #). This set a terrible tone and team wide habit for guys to launch indiscriminately. Walton set a quantitive goal over the qualitative goal of getting good threes, inside and out, driving and kicking in the half court or early threes on delayed fast breaks.
After setting a career high of 7.9 three point 3s attempted per game two season ago, Buddy increase this high by almost 2 more 3s per game at 9.6 attempts. He shot almost friggen 10 3s per game!!! WTF. I do not like it. Thats not pressuring the defense enough.
Buddys accuracy fell from 43% the previous three seasons (over 200 games) to 39%. The real Buddy is a 43% three point shooter. I blame the coach for the dropoff, not the player.
Buddys First 3 King Seasons from 3%: 43% / 43% / 43%. Last Season: 39 %
Do most fans look at this ? I don’t think they do. They respond to Instagram drama. They frankly harp the impetuousness that they themselves are engaged in. Not all the fans but some.
I think the strategy the coach emphasized coming out of camp last season, the quantity over qualitive targets, mindlessly trying to mimick the Rockets, is more pertinent to the course the season took and where we currently are then not returning a text message.
If Buddy returns to his 43% accuracy from deep, or better, which he is totally capable of, the same fans who want to dump him now, will be heaping his praises. Of course Buddy is flawed player and person, but he has an elite proven skill , and you cannot say that about many players and you cannot say that about this coach.
Having passion is fine but there are better ways to go about it than bitching in the press and pointing fingers. He is not leading a team anywhere with his shit attitude and finger pointing, whilst not owning his own flaws and working to correct them.
The Kings fans are like that statement turned me off from him for good. Sure, he’s a great shooter, but sucks at literally everything else.
One thing that stands out to me is the juxtaposition of Fox embracing his leadership role while Buddy is out there somewhere liking an Instagram post of him wearing photoshopped 76ers jersey or whatever. This may be a sign that I’ve officially reached the back 9 of life, but I appreciate how Fox has handles his role. He does the press conferences and radio call-in stuff, but he’s also been in the gym, in Sacramento, all offseason leading by example. I feel like that’s the type of max contract guy you want playing for the Kings.
