Update: 8:00 pm
It was a close call, but the Sacramento Kings got the loss in Philadelphia, losing 113-111 in the final moments of the fourth quarter. Tied at 111 with just 5 seconds left, Tyrese Maxey made a shot driving to the basket and was fouled. He missed the free throw, but it didn’t matter, the Sixers won it.
Dennis Schroder returned to the starting lineup with Russell Westbrook out. He led the Kings with 27 points. DeMar DeRozan added 25 points and 8 assists. Zach LaVine came off the bench and scored 17 points in 29 minutes.
The Kings record sits at 12-37. All five of the teams with the worst record in the league have 12 wins.
From Earlier Preview:
Hand up. If I’m going to be as critical of the Kings as I have been this season, I have to take accountability when I screw up. I didn’t publish the game thread for Tuesday’s loss to the Knicks. I wrote it. I swear I did. I just got distracted by something, forgot to hit publish, and was away from the internet for the rest of the evening. My fault entirely.
But I have taken the necessary time to reflect and read several of Scott Perry’s motivational tweets, and I’m already feeling better about myself. I can do this.
Who: Sacramento Kings (12-36) vs. Philadelphia 76ers (25-21)
Where: Xfinity Mobile Arena, Philadelphia, PA
When: 5:00 PM PT / 7:00 PM ET
Watch: NBCSCA / League Pass
For a moment a couple of weeks back, I feared the Kings were going to start winning too many games to properly tank this season out. But as we stand here today, the Kings have lost 6-straight, and find themselves just one win ahead of the Washington Wizards for the worst record in the league.
I say this with no sarcasm whatsoever, but the game against the Wizards on Sunday in Washington might be the most important game of the year for this organization. Must-lose.
For tonight, the 76ers aren’t a very good basketball team, so the Kings run the risk of winning this if they aren’t careful. But I have faith in this squad. They can find a way to lose.
Prediction: Kings 101, 76ers 123.

The trade deadline is coming up quick;
Seems like Perry may need a swift kick.
His musings are silly
As we take on Philly.
Vivek’s meddling has made us all sick!
+1 Hey, Scott!
Yep JMan
Trade them all ( except the rookies, Keegan and Keon)
Losing is winning
But have to get a 5 back.
Challenging an out of bounds call in the first quarter is just so stupid. I don’t care if you win it. It’s a single possession that guarantees nothing.
One of the worst things to watch, he got that and preaching defense but not playing defensive players from mike brown
If I am indeed behind the times I apologize but when did the predictions switch to tank and not Kings winning? I missed it. Also agreed about the Wizards game. Let them cast a spell on us and get us the L.
Literally today. I’ve seen enough.
I just hold on to hope that next year the broadcast will finally be free to call game action as it occurs.
I just have to think DDR has some value in the league. All I know is the Kings need to move him before he wills his way to some unnecessary wins.
To be clear, the man is an incredible basketball player. No matter where you are on the Kings fan spectrum…the dude deserves better.
I’ll also add, if DDR was 26 and not 36, I’d be all about wanting to build a team around him. The truth is, there just isn’t a future for this franchise when he’s leading the team in scoring and random wins.
even if he were 26,it would take the Kings until he were 36 to realize that they should build around him and, voila, here we are. just saved you 10 years of torture
Leads them in negative plus minus also. He can score, great, he is shit for the actual offense and defensive gameplans
If he was 26, they’d probably be looking to draft him as a 7th-year senior out of Alcorn State.
The post-game NBC Sports heading had the the title “Short handed kings lose to 76ers”. I know it’s semantics but the excuse making is so tiring. The Kings werent shorthanded being without Westbrook who they signed nearly as the season started. Their crowned starter Schroeder started. Keegans been hurt for a minute but I don’t see this team as short handed. I see them as a lot of things bad but shorthanded is not one of them.
WE’RE IN FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!
Believe In The Tank!!
yes ! Tankathon has Kings ranked #1,
5 teams tied with 12 wins
Wiz game biggest of the season . Trade them all the night before
That final score is too close for comfort. I fear Russ might have provided just enough to win that game.
He is second worse in plus minus, world of lost by more
Fun game! Kept it close and we were able to mount a nice GoAway (the opposite of a comeback?) down the stretch to secure the loss and keep the streak alive!
Now make some trades and sell the team!
The Kings fought hard last night, and looked a lot better playing without Russ.
Strapped in and hoping that something happens in …. six (6) days. On many levels I don’t care what they do as my expectations are that it will be bad, useless or just plain stupid.

There really isn’t much else to say. It’s just a waiting game at this point.
Shame on Vivek and Matina for almost getting me to the point that I don’t care about the draft or the deadline. And shame on the NBA for letting it get like this.
Numbness intensifies!
