Domantas Sabonis reportedly has a mild hamstring strain

Sabonis’ hamstring injury is officially “mild,” but with Keegan Murray already sidelined, the Kings could face a rough start to the season if the big man misses extended time

Domantas Sabonis exited Wednesday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Clippers in the second half with a right hamstring injury. On Thursday, Chris Haynes reported that it is a mild hamstring strain.

No official medical update has been released by the Kings.

A “mild” hamstring strain is defined as a Grade 1 injury, the least severe, which is a good thing. Last season, on March 1, Sabonis suffered a grade 1 left hamstring injury in a win over the Houston Rockets. He didn’t play in a game again until March 14. The injury being mild is the best possible outcome, but with Keegan Murray already out 4-6 weeks, missing Sabonis in the front court at the same time to start the season could make things pretty rough out of the gate.

We’ll keep you updated as any new information comes out.

I really like Domas and I want him to be healthy but I’d be happy if he missed a couple of weeks to recover.

Sucks for Domas.

But now we can trot out a 5 guard lineup with Westbrook at Center.

Damn if we only had a Center that could step in and be just as good.

He’s in Denver, but it’s ok because we have Dario Saric.

The dude is tough as nails, but hamstrings are not to be toiled with. In my personal experience in dealing with one, they are nagging and lingering injury that can get worse if worked too soon. I’m hoping he sits for two weeks before reevaluation.

Obviously the solution is to sign Ben Simmons.

Non-guaranteed? That’s a positive wrinkle.

Update: The Sacramento Kings signed Russell Westbrook to a non-guaranteed, one-year deal, league sources told @hoopshypeofficial.bsky.social. The former MVP and nine-time All-Star leads the league in career triple-doubles and was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.

From Monk via Sean Cunningham:

Referring to Westbrook as “probably one of the best teammates I had,” Monk added that he thinks Westbrook can hold his own as an undersized power forward and defend opposing fours, which would help the club while Keegan Murray (thumb surgery) is sidelined.

Everyone drinking the Kool-Aid, apparently.

It’s been argued for on ESPN 1320 by D-Lo, KC, Ham that Russ is well-equipped to handle PFs defensively. It just seems like organizational spin that they are spewing to try and be as optimistic as possible about the roster.

It would be nice to have local media call out the Kings for being so inept during the Ranadive era, but they won’t do that. If this were a market like NY, Philly, LA, etc., Vivek would be getting crushed by local media and national media. Reality is, national media doesn’t give a crap about the Kings because they are so irrelevant in the league.

A Drew Eubanks – Dario Saric starting frontcourt will be one of the saddest ones ever.
