Kings vs. Hornets Preview: How low can you go

The Kings are flailing. Let's see if they show up for this one.

Tonight marks the second of a two-game stretch where the Kings take on two of the worst teams in the NBA.  The Kings lost the first, to the Washington Wizards. Now, the Kings have a chance at redemption being slightly less embarrassed than they were Wednesday. They can’t possible lose both of these, right? Right?

Let’s talk Kings basketball!

When: Friday, April 4th, 4:00 PM PT
Where: Spectrum Center, Charlotte, NC
TV: NBC Sports California
RadioSactown Sports 1140 AM

For Your Consideration

I’ve really lost any sense of caring about this Kings team for this season. I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a Kings fan who truly believes the Kings have a shot at anything more than a quick end to their season. It’s really just a question of how quickly it ends. Do we have to suffer through the charade of the Play-In? Do the Kings get hot for two games just to make us endure watching a first round sweep? I’m firmly in the camp who would rather just see the season end. No Play-In, keep the draft pick, and hope for sweeping changes across the board.

But the Kings don’t do anything the easy way, or the correct way, so I’m resigned to the idea of the Kings doing just enough to make the Play-In and lose their draft pick in the process. So with that mindset, I expect the Kings to lose to Charlotte and then pull off some inexplicable wins against the Cavs and Nuggets and Clippers. Nothing would be more Kangz.

The Hornets will be without a good chunk of their roster for this game. LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, Josh Green, Grant Williams, Damion Baugh, and Tre Mann are all out. Nick Smith Jr is questionable. Mark Williams, Seth Curry, and Taj Gibson are probable. DaQuan Jeffries Revenge Game incoming!

The Kings will be mostly healthy, with Jake LaRavia still out and Devin Carter listed as Questionable as he works back from a shoulder injury.

Prediction

The Kings have one of their random nights where they make all their shots. The Kings allow Charlotte to do the same, just to be good sports. Kings win on a buzz-er beater. Get it?

Kings 140, Hornets 138

Their injury list has grown long,
But for Charlotte that’s more right than wrong.
We would have their top pick,
But protected’s the trick.
So we’ll just kiss that draft pick, “So long”!

This team’s nickname is Buzz City. No, don’t ask me why. But it’s a Friday and to get through this one I might have to resort to various options.

Go? Kings

Amazing that Jman kept on churning out limericks
And Greg & Co just kept posting new content
While the TKH crowd
Got restless and loud
and just wanted this horrorseason to end

There once was a man from Mumbai,
and one day the Kings he did buy.
Those around him get layoffs
but rarely the playoffs.
We’re truly where hope comes to die.

A season that started with hope
Got upended by Vivek the dope.
Any chance he’ll steer clear
Of meddling next year?
The betting man would say “nope!”.

The Kings are always bad,
and thus the fans are always sad.

End of Poem.

We all know these clowns as the Kangz,
They’ll never get sized for rangz.
Who knew Gavin and Joe
weren’t the only owners that blow?
This is why we cannot have nice thangz.

I asked Gemini to write a poem about how bad the Kings are:

A purple reign, a faded dream,
The Kings of court, a fractured team.
From Cowbell clang to silent hall,
Their playoff hopes begin to fall.

A season’s start, a flicker bright,
Then darkness falls, and dims the light.
The free throws missed, the passes strayed,
A weary sigh, a losing parade.

The coach’s words, a hollow sound,
As rivals dance, and victories abound.
Defense a sieve, offense a stall,
The loyal fans, they watch it all.

A royal flush, a losing hand,
In Sacramento’s barren land.
The final buzzer, a mournful chime,
“Next year,” they say, “next year’s our time.”

And I for one welcome our new AI overlords.

Kings strategy:
Get barrel. Drink barrel until adequately obtunded. Scrape the bottom. Kangz!

lethargy (mildly dulled sensitivity, fairly easily arousal to consciousness) < obtunded (moderately dulled sensitivity, arousal to consciousness is difficult) < stuporous (severely dulled sensitivity, arousal to consciousness is very difficult, think semi-comatose) < comatose (unable to be aroused to consciousness aka unconscious)

also known as the various stages of fan interest of the 2024-2025 Sacramento Kings season – quickly headed to the most severe conditions as 13 April quickly approaches.

No Play-In, keep the draft pick, and hope for sweeping changes across the board.

This is the way.

Domantas Sabonis has been added to the Kings' injury list. He is questionable with right ankle soreness.

Domas needs one more game to reach the 65 game season mark.

Unless something unlikely occurs, he will finish the season as the NBA Rebounding leader. That would make it three seasons in a row, pretty impressive. This season’s current rate, 14.0 rpg, would be the highest level of the three seasons.

Did you know?
1989-99 Chris Webber, Sacramento (13.0 rpg) was the NBA rebounding champion, the first to displace Dennis Rodman, who had owned the title for the 7 previous seasons. He is the only other Sacramento King to claim that achievement.

I think he might need a couple extra games because of the minutes requirement for the games to count.

You have to play 65, with at least 63 of those being 20 minutes or more. He’s at 64/62 right now.
