The Sacramento Kings have traded the 24th pick in the draft, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and Richaun Holmes to the Dallas Mavericks.

The move opens up the option for the Kings to have up to $30 million in cap space in free agency.
We will continue to update as more details become known, but as of right now it appears this move was a straight cap dump to get off Holmes’ contract.
Whether this is a good move or not will depend entirely on what the Kings do next, but this is clearly not a move that was made in a vacuum. The Kings must have a goal for this added cap space.
Great move by MM!
Freeing up cap space to make moves in FA/Trades.
Around $30 million in cap space is significant. We have a chance to plug the hole at the 4 and pickup a 3nD wing or perhaps go for a homerun signing/trade.
I’m still a Lewis fan….and he may fall to us at 38. As could a few others we were talking about at 24. Not that bad to get out of Holmes contract.
Colby Jones!
Colby Jones to Kings.
To clear up space for Harrison Barnes, Sasha Vezenkov, Trey Lyles and Anjali!?
Wanted to give a shout out to Holmes. Loved that we resigned him, but times change. Hope he balls out in Dallas.
Agreed.
Jalen Slawson?
Patiently awaiting our Col Slaw rookie combo at Summer League.
I always thought Holmes had at least a neutral trade value. I guess the value is not having to take back any salary. Are we making a big offer to Kyle Kuzma?
Wouldn’t mind Kuzma. Could also make solid offers to Jerami Grant, Cam Johnson, Kris Middleton (although Middleton would be pretty risky).
Of the above Cam Johnson first then Kyle Kuzma
Hopefully the cap space is used wisely.
What a shame to have to cough up a (low) first just to dump Holmes. If we use the space well, great, but damn.
What I give pause to is that Dallas only had to move back 2 spots to get rid of Bertans deal, which is far worse than the Holmes contract. Monte, however, have to give up the whole pick to move Holmes.
I think MM was more desperate to move Holmes. When you’re a team with cap space more cap space is critical. Hope the team can get an significant upgrade at the forward spot next to Sabonis and Murray
I really liked OMax as a prospect. Hopefully this is a precursor to a meaningful FA signing.
I like moves that free up bad contracts, even ones that didn’t seem bad at the time they were signed. Great guy, wish him the best but I am happy with the FO loading up cash for flexibility to compete in the free agent market.
Great move Monty. Keep it going.
There was a day, not even a year ago, where cap space for the Kings felt like it didn’t mean anything, because Free Agents didn’t want to come to Sacramento. Now it doesn’t feel that way. We’ve already seen guys like Bradley Beal say they’d waive their no trade clause to come to Sac. I’m glad the team isn’t perceived as basketball hell anymore.
I will reserve judgment until the next few weeks have passed. A very intriguing move in the here and now – hoping that it is just the first chapter in a bigger story.
I don’t feel like the trade was bad because we got a solid value pick in Colby it sounds like plus unloading Holmes and Murray was gone by 24 so….
Damn, I was hoping Holmes would make a comeback this year. Still a fan, hope he does great in Dallas!
Seems like some we needed some money to throw around, for our FA and lure some more in. Can’t wait till free agency!
There are reports that the Kings have officially offered Sasha a contract. The only info I can find is it is slightly less than the $8.4 million Keegan is getting this year. At about $6m a year it’s worth the gamble for the potential impact. I think he takes it.
How did Dallas give up Bertrans and only move down two spots while it cost Sac moving out of 24 completely? Bertrans has a bigger contract too???
