The Kings have finally revealed the new jersey numbers for all of their newest members, and there are some changes among the current roster as well.
Veterans George Hill (#3), Zach Randolph (#50) and Vince Carter (#15) are all retaining the number they’ve worn for most of their careers.
Hill has a chance to be the best #3 the Kings have ever had, as the most prominent names to have the number in Kings history include journeyman like Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, Cuttino Mobley and Vernon Maxwell. Skal Labissiere wore #3 last season, but will make the change to #7 this year, last worn by the departed Darren Collison (and Jimmer Fredette before him).
Z-Bo is wearing his familiar 50, a number that hasn’t been seen in the Sacramento-era since Eddie House in 2005. Before that it hadn’t been worn since 1991 by Ralph Sampson.
If anyone is going to be the first person to wear #15 after DeMarcus Cousins, Vince Carter, a future hall of famer, is as good as anyone. Originally this was going to be Frank Mason III’s new number, but Mason will instead wear #10. Malachi Richardson also officially made the switch to #23, which we’ve known was likely for a while now (and is also the number he wore in Summer League).
Finally, Bogdan Bogdanovic has chosen #8, which is supremely fitting as we now have prime opportunity to use BB-8 nicknames. If he chose it on purpose for that reason, even better. Get on the photoshops, StR!
