Kings reportedly sign Jack Cooley to two-way contract

The Kings want to keep the summer league standout in their system.

We wondered the other day when the Kings would begin to use their new “two-way contracts” and it seems they were thinking the same thing. The Kings have reportedly signed summer league standout Jack Cooley to one of those contracts, per Chris Reichert. While the Kings have not announced the news officially, other reporters have confirmed.

Cooley isn’t the most exciting prospect at 26 years old, but he showed in Summer League that he’s tough, got a nose for the ball, and even has some range. Cooley played four years at Notre Dame before going undrafted in the 2013 draft. He has played on a couple of ten-day contracts in the NBA for the Utah Jazz back in 2015 but hasn’t played in the NBA since.

Under the terms of the two-way contract, Cooley will spend most of the season in Reno but can spend up to 45 days with the Kings. It’s unlikely that Cooley will ever be part of Sacramento’s main roster, but the Kings obviously like him enough to keep him in their system. He’s someone would could probably help Sacramento’s other young bigs (like Georgios Papagiannis or Harry Giles) when they’re down in Reno.

It’s unknown if Cooley’s two-way contract is for one or two years. The Kings still have one more to give out if they so choose.
