Rumor: Kings ‘definitely have interest’ in Pascal Siakam

Could the Raptors big man be on the move?

A trade could be on the horizon for the Sacramento Kings and Toronto Raptors.

On the Deuce & Mo Podcast earlier this week, Sam Amick of The Athletic shared that Sacramento’s front office has expressed a definite interest in picking up All-Star forward Pascal Siakam:

Is there a realistic trade to be made for the 2019 Most Improved Player? Siakam averaged 21.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game across 55 games played.

Toronto drafted Scottie Barnes and waved goodbye to Kyle Lowry, making clear that a point guard was of high desire. The Kings already hold a very guard heavy roster with versatility from forwards like Tyrese Haliburton and newly re-signed Terence Davis.

Siakam’s tendencies to rim run and go iso don’t seem to match the current scope of the Kings roster, but with the right moves made he could make a transition into more of an assist-man.

The major issue would seem to be unloading Siakmam’s max contract onto Sacramento, something I think the squad is dog-earring for Haliburton’s success in the next few seasons along with other free agent acquisitions.

Per Spotrac, “Pascal Siakam signed a 4 year / $136,905,216 contract with the Toronto Raptors, including $136,905,216 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $34,226,304. In 2021-22, Siakam will earn a base salary of $33,003,936, while carrying a cap hit of $33,003,936 and a dead cap value of $33,003,936.”

In other words: the Raptors owe Pascal a lot of money for less than optimal product that he produced in Tampa this last season.

But as we learned in the last few days, no contract isn’t tradable.
