NBA teams have started to test players and staff for the coronavirus this week in anticipation of the league restart next month. The hope is that individuals who test positive will have enough time to quarantine and recover before the start of training camp on July 11.

As coronavirus testing for players heading to Orlando starts today, teams are bracing for significant numbers of positive tests. One Western Conference playoff team had four positives in past few weeks, per sources. Full training camps start on July 11 at Disney.

The Sacramento Kings have just reported their first confirmed case, as Jabari Parker has tested positive for the coronavirus, per a statement he released through the team:

As Parker says, he is still planning on taking part in the rest of the season with the Kings as they battle for a playoff spot to prevent their postseason drought from reaching 14 seasons. Sam Amick reports that the team was aware of Parker’s positive test when they decided to sign Corey Brewer yesterday with their open roster spot.

Should Parker decide he is unable to play in Orlando — despite his clear preference to join the team next month — Sacramento would be able to sign a replacement player after July 1 and keep Parker on the books for next season. Parker has a player option worth $6.5 million for 2020-21 that he is likely to pick up.

The Kings acquired Parker in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks in February. Parker has appeared in just one game for Sacramento this season.
