The Sacramento Kings announced today that Duke big man Marvin Bagley III would be coming to Sacramento for a pre-draft workout on Monday. Bagley will be the first high-end lottery talent the Kings have brought to Sacramento this season.
Most draft experts expect Bagley to go somewhere in the Top 5 of the draft, with several, including ESPN, projecting him to the Kings at #2. Bagley’s talent is undeniable, and you should definitely read Bryant’s latest scouting report on him to get a full rundown on just why he might be the Kings pick at #2 … and why he might not be.
While Bagley is the first lottery guy to visit Sacramento, it’s not as if the Kings haven’t been doing their homework. Multiple members of the front office are in Chicago today to see Michael Porter Jr.’s Pro Day workout, and they’re also expected to be part of a smaller group that will get to see Porter work out again next week. Vlade Divac himself has been to Spain twice in the last two weeks to watch Luka Doncic play in the Euroleague and ACB playoffs, even being accompanied by owner Vivek Ranadivé on his last trip. The Kings have also attended Pro Days for Bagley and Wendell Carter Jr. in the past month.
At this point the decision for the #2 pick seems to be centered on Doncic, Bagley, and Porter Jr. Those are the players that come up most in discussions and in the media, although nobody seems to know exactly what the Kings are thinking. The NBA Draft is just two short weeks away, and hopefully we’ll have a better idea which way the Kings are leaning by then.
