The 2020 NBA Draft took place last week, and the Kings selected Tyrese Haliburton at no. 12, Robert Woodard II at no. 40, and Jahmi’us Ramsey at no. 43. However, the SB Nation community isn’t too high on the team’s overall haul. When asked who won draft night, the fans picked a team that didn’t even have a lottery pick.
According to 42 percent of responders, Philadelphia had the best draft after selecting Tyrese Maxey, Isaiah Joe, and Paul Reed. The 76ers also picked up Danny Green in a salary dump of Al Horford’s contract, and added Seth Curry in another trade. The Kings had been a rumored destination for Horford, but Philadelphia found other sources of shooting instead of Buddy Hield.
Considering how highly the fans thought of the 76ers’ night, it’s no surprise that Maxey was listed among the steals of the draft. He wasn’t no. 1, however. That honor went to Deni Avdija, selected ninth overall by the Wizards.
Avdija won 33 percent of the votes for draft night steal, Cole Anthony got 21 percent as the no. 15 pick, and Maxey collected 20 percent of the votes. It seemed like Sacramento got a steal with Haliburton, but the fans don’t seem to agree.
Nevertheless, Haliburton said his first goal was to be Rookie of the Year. Alas, another point guard has pole position on that honor so far: LaMelo Ball.
The no. 3 overall pick was projected by 27 percent of voters to win Rookie of the Year. Obi Toppin, drafted eighth by the Knicks, picked up 21 percent of the votes followed by James Wiseman with 14 percent and Anthony Edwards with 13 percent. Jalen Smith, Killian Hayes, Avdija, Onyeka Okongwu, Patrick Williams, and Isaac Okoro each received votes, but none for Haliburton. The Smith votes are especially shocking.
Let us know what you think about these three questions: Who won draft night? Who will be the biggest steal? And who do you think should be the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year?
