Sacramento Kings ‘aggressively’ looking for trades

Pete D'Alessandro and the new management are keen to continue reshaping the roster and are actively seeking trade opportunities.

It's no secret that the Kings would like to make some changes.  Vivek Ranadivé and co. bought a team full of mismatched parts and it's going to take a while to remake the team the way they want it.

Sacramento would like to make some changes sooner rather than later though.  According to Scott Howard-Cooper, the Kings are "aggressively" looking at trade opportunities, with the focus being on gathering prospects and/or picks.

The Kings have popped up as interested parties in both New York's Iman Shumpert and Minnesota's Derrick Williams in recent days, among others.  Judging by all the reports, the Kings seem like they are actively seeking to shed some of the bigger contracts for veterans like John Salmons, Marcus Thornton, Chuck Hayes and Jason Thompson.

The problem is of course, getting anything of value for the above players.  Salmons, Thornton and Thompson are not having good years, and none of the players have value that warrant the size of their contracts.  I suppose it is possible a playoff team could seek to add these players for some depth as playoffs approach, but they'll also need to be able to match salaries, since most, if not all, playoff teams are at or above the salary cap.  That makes straight salary dumps tricky, with Sacramento likely having to take a bad contract back themselves.

A date to watch with regards to trades is December 15th; That's the date that teams can trade players they signed this offseason, which opens up a lot of opportunities.
