Kings trade Jason Thompson, Carl Landry, Nik Stauskas to Philadelphia 76ers

The Kings just created a ton of cap space with one move.

This trade accomplishes several things for the Kings. First, and most importantly, it creates a ton of extra cap space.

Second, while it may seem unfair to dump Jason Thompson into a bad situation after all that he's been through, we should keep in mind that JT is from Philadelphia. The longest-tenured King in franchise history gets to go home.

We'll have more on this as it develops, as well as additional reactions to the trade. Stay tuned, as this trade likely is a signal that the Kings are about to make some moves in free agency.

Update:

The Kings will receive the rights to several international prospects. Read that as "unguaranteed contracts".

And the Kings are expected to use the cap space to pursue Wes Matthews and Rajon Rondo. Rondo reportedly wanted $10 million, Matthews has reportedly been seeking $15 million per year. The Kings now have about $25 million in cap space.

And just for good measure, let's throw Monta Ellis into the mix.

Having fun yet?

Update #2

Welp.

This certainly makes the deal a bit less appealing. I'm curious about some of the details involved here, but this certainly isn't the 2nd rounder many hoped might be included.
