The Sacramento Kings are signing Corey Brewer for the remainder of the season, per reports. The Kings had signed Brewer to two 10-day contracts, with the second 10-day ending today. Teams can only sign players to a 10-day twice and then must sign them for the rest of the season or lose them to free agency.

Brewer didn’t play at all for the Kings in his first 10-day contract, but has appeared in three games on his second deal. In three games Brewer is averaging 8.3 points, 1.3 assists, 0.7 rebounds, and is shooting 36.4% from 3. Brewer is an energetic and pesky defender, and has fit in well with the Kings style of play.
Perhaps the biggest element of this story is that Brewer chose to stay with the Kings for the rest of the year instead of joining other playoff-bound teams. It suggests Brewer believes the Kings can make the playoffs, and that he’ll get continued minutes to help the team toward that goal.
Personally, I’m glad Brewer is sticking around. He’s a great role player who knows what’s expected of him and is ready whenever he gets minutes. He’s well regarded throughout the league as a good locker room guy and teammate.
Besides, you gotta love guys who become memes.
