Sacramento Kings bringing brash shooting guard Marshall Henderson to training camp

By | 0 Comments | Mar 5, 2019

Talent wise, Henderson has a knack for scoring the ball at a high level. In his three years at Ole Miss, he averaged 17.2 points a game while shooting 34.4% from three. He averaged a whopping 12.6 three point attempts in his junior year, making 34.2% of them. Needless to say, his shot selection leaves something to be desired. He's also pretty undersized for a shooting guard at just 6'2, and doesn't seem to possess the passing instincts that would allow him to play as a combo guard in the NBA, averaging just 1.6 assists a game over three years.

More than that though is the fact that Henderson has had problem after problem off the court, with drugs, alcohol and just general poor decision-making. On the court he's known as cocky and in your face, as well as for coming up big in the clutch.

Spears wrote an interesting story on Henderson's post college-career earlier this year from his time playing in Iraq in which Henderson appears to be more thoughtful and remorseful about the behavior that might have cost him an NBA opportunity. The Kings are at least willing to take a chance to see if that maturity is real or not. Even if it is though, the odds are incredibly stacked against Henderson for making the team, although he does have a chance of making the Reno Bighorns if he performs well. At this point, that might be enough motivation for Henderson to keep his NBA dream alive.
