Kings rumored to be interested in Marcus Smart

Smart makes a lot of sense for Sacramento

The Sacramento Kings may be preparing an offer sheet for another restricted free agent. After the Chicago Bulls matched the Kings offer to Zach LaVine, we’ve been waiting to see what would happen next. Now a report from NBC Sports Boston reporter A. Sherrod Blakely suggests that the next move could involve Marcus Smart.

Smart is a restricted free agent, meaning the Kings would once again be dependent on another team deciding not to match their offer. The Boston Celtics would presumably like to bring Smart back, but cost is always an issue. The Celtics have been content to allow Smart to find his own deal, and Smart has become frustrated with the Celtics.

Smart would be an interesting addition for the Kings. He’s a versatile defender who can easily guard three positions and has no problem switching onto larger players. He’s also a decent ball handler and passer, and would provide the Kings with point guard depth. Smart’s biggest red flag is that he’s a really bad shooter, but still tends to shoot with high frequency.
