Marvin Bagley III contracted COVID-19 — or the coronavirus — while he was in Arizona last month, the Sacramento Kings forward announced during his media availability on Wednesday.

“I wasn’t here the first few days of camp for individual workouts, but I’ve been here watching ever since camp started,” Bagley said. “I’m feeling great, I’ve been out there working out — individual workouts. This is the best I’ve ever felt. I’m just getting through the COVID protocol and I’ll be back on the court very soon, so I’m excited about that.”

Bagley said he experienced flu-like symptoms in the first three to four days after he tested positive for the coronavirus, which included body aches, headaches and changes in body temperature. After that initial period, Bagley said he slowly worked his way back to full strength and began individual workouts with the Kings.

Bagley said he expected to miss the Kings’ preseason opener against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday, but he doesn’t expect any further setbacks once he’s cleared to join his teammates.

“I’m feeling great, man,” Bagley said. “I’m feeling the best I’ve ever felt in a while. I took time this offseason to put more time into my body and just do everything I can control to make sure I’m on the court and available for my team, Last season, I’m putting that behind me. I don’t really care to talk about it anymore. I’m just looking forward to being with this new group of guys and I’m excited to build on what we’ve been doing so far.”

Luke Walton confirmed that Bagley has looked good after practice on Wednesday, and he’s hoping that the former No. 2 overall pick can stay healthy and help the Kings contribute this seaosn.

“There’s there’s a lot to be excited about since I’ve been here, and I know that was only for 12 games, so a lot of what I’m going off is how I see him doing in drills and in practice and whatnot, but his shot looks better,” Walton said. “He’s motivated from coming out of another disappointing injury in the bubble. And, you know, he wants to get on that court and go, so it’s exciting; the possibility of what he can help our team do.”

The Kings and Trail Blazers will tip off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
