On Saturday, Sacramento Kings rookie Kyle Guy revealed in an Instagram post that his grandfather died on Friday as a result of COVID-19, or the coronavirus.
Guy, the No. 55 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, used the post to thank everyone for their support during what has been a difficult time for him and his family, but he also used his post to remind people how deadly the virus can be, and why it’s so important to listen to public health and safety guidelines.
There are currently over 350,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States, including over 15,000 in California and 442 in the Sacramento County. Since Feb. 29, 10,389 people have died from the coronavirus, including 351 in California and 18 in the Sacramento County.
There is currently no vaccine for the virus, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have provided guidelines that can help your protect yourself and others from the virus. Here are a few of those guidelines:
You can also help prevent the spread of the coronavirus by practicing social distancing. On March 19, California governor Gavin Newsom issued a stay at home order, and that order will be in place for the foreseeable future.
