The Sacramento Kings are signing Damian Jones to a multi-year deal, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The report has since been confirmed by multiple local reporters. Jones’ second 10-day contract with the Kings expired on Tuesday.
Jones’ role has fluctuated because of Richaun Holmes’ injury and it will likely change again once Marvin Bagley III returns from injury, but he’s been productive in the minutes he’s been given thus far. Through six games, Jones has averaged 3.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game and posted the highest offensive rating (117.2) on the team. The Kings’ offense is 6.3 points worse per 100 possessions with Jones on the bench.
The terms of Jones’ contract haven’t been released, but it’s likely that the second year in non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed.
In an unrelated move, the Kings are also waiving Chris Silva, who they acquired in a trade with the Miami Heat in March. Silva had a team option for the 2021-22 season worth $1.8 million. He appeared in four games for Sacramento and played a total of nine minutes.
The Kings now have an open roster spot that they can use to evaluate more player on 10-day contracts or promote one of their players on two-way contracts. Kyle Guy has been with the Kings the longest, but Chimezie Metu has made the strongest case for a full-time spot on the roster with his recent play. On Monday against the Dallas Mavericks, he scored 9 points on 4-6 shooting from the field.
