Kings’ fourth-quarter comeback falls short against Bucks

Sacramento has lost three in a row, but only sits 1.5 games behind the Golden State Warriors for the 10th seed in the Western Conference.

After playing some of their best basketball of the season, the Sacramento Kings are falling back to earth.

Newcomer Terence Davis scored a career-high 27 points, but it wasn’t enough in a 129-128 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Kings put forth a valiant effort in the fourth quarter. They were down by 13 with less than seven minutes left, but went on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to two with 2:42 remaining.

But the Bucks — who were missing reigning back-to-back NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo — kept Sacramento at bay the rest of the way and hung on for the win.

Milwaukee guard Jrue Holiday was sensational in this one, leading the way with 33 points, 11 assists, and seven rebounds. Holiday iced the game with a layup that extended the Bucks’ lead to five with less than a minute to go.

The Kings got a strong performance from point guard De’Aaron Fox, who finished with 27 points and six dimes. Sacramento shot 49.5 percent from the field, but couldn’t stop Milwaukee.

The Bucks connected on 53.8 percent of their field goal attempts and outrebounded the Kings 47-40.

After making up some ground in the Western Conference playoff race, Sacramento has dropped three in a row, but still sits only 1.5 games behind the Golden State Warriors for the 10th seed.

Head coach Luke Walton went with a small-ball lineup late, playing Davis in place of center Richaun Holmes. The Kings put up 37 points in the fourth quarter and moved the ball well with Davis in the lineup.

Sacramento needs to focus on getting back to playing well defensively if it wants to stop the three-game skid. The Kings have two very winnable games coming up and should get back into the win column.

They will be on the road for a matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday before returning home for a game against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday.
