Jahmi’us Ramsey out at least 2-3 weeks with groin strain

The rookie hasn’t been a part of Luke Walton’s rotation.

The Kings announced Thursday that rookie Jahmi’us Ramsey has suffered a a left groin strain. Ramsey had an MRI to confirm the injury and will be re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks to determine his availability to return.

Ramsey has played 16 minutes thus far in his first season, but all of them have come in garbage time, per Cleaning the Glass. He hasn’t been a part of head coach Luke Walton’s rotation, so this won’t materially affect the way the Kings divvy up minutes for the foreseeable future.

Ramsey now joins DaQuan Jeffries on the shelf, who is four weeks away from being re-evaluated for his grade 3 left ankle sprain.

Ramsey is the seventh-youngest player in the NBA this year, still 19 years old, so it was not expected for him to immediately come in and make an impact in Sacramento. It’s unfair to compare him to Tyrese Haliburton, whose feel for the game is far beyond his years, but Ramsey even looks a step behind compared to fellow rookie Robert Woodard II in terms of his court awareness.

The Kings aren’t sending their Stockton franchise to the G League bubble, so at least Ramsey isn’t missing out on what could be his lone opportunity for minutes this season with an ill-timed injury. Instead, he’ll continue to rehab with the NBA club and presumably work with coach Rico Hines and the rest of the player development team. Hopefully, he has a swift recovery and gets back on the court soon.
